how does the skill group placing work anyways
i've been top / 2nd top frag the majority of my won games, i've planted / defused quite a bit and (i know it won't be able to understand this) i've made calls, listen for foorsteps and all that, even did a few fake plants / defuses that won the round
i just really hope i get gn1 if the whole silver hell thing is real

I'm not 100% sure, but I think if you solo queue as an unranked, every game you get till you are ranked (10 wins) will put you with random skill groups to calibrate your ELO (hidden rating) and try to determine where you stand based on your performance and match result against said skill groups.

If you play with friends though, it will more than likely put you close to their rank with slight variance based on how hard you carry/get carried

yeah i've noticed that too, it started out with medium-rank silvers and now there's been gn3's
i've still consistently been top / 2nd top frag, save for a few

you always have a rank, its just hidden and changes throughout those first 10 matches to fit you with the correct skillgroup

ok so that must be good because everyone but me and 1 highest rank silver was gn 1 - 3 last match

SEM seems to have a high ELO variance, whereas at the bottom of SEM, you'll see silver 3-SE, and at the top of SEM, you'll see more gold novas.
