why wouldn't you baby talk your child at least a little bit

they're not going to get a hold on speech patterns immediately.  it takes time for them to figure it out.  babytalking helps them figure it out slowly and surely at the mental pace of any infant.
According to that wikipedia article, the only good thing baby talk does is to help infants get to understand verbal feedback. Example:
Bill Gates: Hey
Ron Jeggemy: Hi.
Now, the article says by responding to your kid it helps them. Responding doesn't specify baby/normal talk. I think that talking to them like a regular loving person is better then teaching them nonsensical bullstuff.

Jesus you're all being bitches about this.

I baby talked my nephew, he didn't turn out forgeted up. My mom baby 4 if her kids, we all turned out fine.
You're making a big deal about something that really doesn't actually impair the baby's grasp on verbal speaking. You're just complaining for the sake of complaining.

Maybe we should just get rid of babies instead?

evidently you didn't read thoroughly

the slow enunciation of babytalking is what helps infants understand speech patterns.  you have to understand they have literally no concept of "speech" or moving every single muscle involved in speech in such a way that they form coherent words (and this isn't even talking about forming verbal thoughts and coherent sentences).

^^^this

i've seen 3 children raised with babytalking involved in their infancy.  they each did not have speech problems through their young childhood.

Pretty much this. I think the only thing that would really give the child speech problems is if everyone around them babytalked (as in even to each other and anyone they were in contact with) until they were like 5.

Someone's gonna eventually tell them "hey, people don't talk like that, shut the forget up".

You still have your dreams of being a psychologist? You shouldn't be one. But how is baby talk going to be bad.

If you could show me multiple legitimate studies that prove it's bad for a baby's speech, then I'll believe you.

I'm not saying that baby talking is going to make your child stupid or something, I'm just saying it might help.

I agree with op that teaching a a child regular English but perhaps more enunciated is better. It won't make them learn faster, but you won't have to teach them twice (once with Moronese, once with English.)

My mom freaks out whenever I so much as say "piss" or "suck" around my 7 year old sister

It's not really something we can or should stop. Most people do it to baby animals too.

i baby talk my pets...
yes

I don't care tho. one of my stepbrothers is like... six, I think, and he still talks like a baby. cus he's dumb. but mostly for attention
