Author Topic: Is there any way to cancel my pc update?  (Read 1511 times)

I let my pc update while I did hw for an hour, and came back but it still isn't done. I need to use my pc. Is there any way to cancel the download? I already tried turning it off and back on, but it's still on the update screen. Any help?

well it's on the update screen because it is installing the updates

probably

You restarted it while doing updates? Bad idea, that can cause issues

Wait, so it was installing updates, and you turned off your computer?

Your OS is most likely broken now. gg.

Wait doesn't it specifically tell you to NOT turn off or restart your PC during updates?

You turned it off?
have somebody repair it.

I've done it plenty of times when it decided to update when I told it not to.
No broken OS. gg

so like, what actually happens when you turn off your computer while its installing updates?

you can see if you can access f11 menu when it starts up (or whatever the button is) and try to get a restore point if it's broken, which is what I did a while ago when I accidentally pulled the plug while it was updating

It can't download if it's broken.

Uhh. My computer can be turned off whilst updating. The update is only applied after download is complete and files are complete.

It most likely starts to rollback the updates if they become corrupted from restart. Probably goes through to check what is ok and what isn't, that's why it's taking time. And if the updates didn't get corrupted, it will try to resume itself at that point. Would make sense. I mean we don't live in the stone age anymore, these fool proof systems should be everywhere.

Even if it won't break the OS, it is still a pretty bad idea.
If your update download actually "froze" try waiting a hour or so and if theres no update progress the update download is likely frozen. In that case, you might want to try rebooting. Be careful doing this.
SEE HOW IT CLEARLY SAYS NOT TO TURN THE COMPUTER OFF?

EDIT: If PC got corrupted try booting into safe mode and doing system restore
