Depends on what kind of games you like.
Strategy: Fire Emblem
Adventure: Zelda (Link between worlds or a classic: Zelda Ocerina of Time)
Hack-n-slash kinda: Monster Hunter
Racing: Mario Kart
Some of them don't have the full title, but i am sure you can figure out which ones i mean...

only get mh3 if you don't have a wii u
if you have a wii u, get it on wii u. can't play mh3 online on a 3ds without a wii u (i think, either that or you can't play it at all), and even then, you're better off getting it on wii u.
but if 3ds is your only option, get it on 3ds.

i second mario kart 7 and pokemon x/y

resident evil: revelations is a great throwback to the older survival-horror RE games, also worth noting it's very fun with gyro controls (demo in the eshop)

if you like menu-based rpgs like final fantasy, bravely default is coming out in the us on february (demo in the eshop)

honorable mentions:
etrian odyssey (dungeon crawler franchise, may try your patience. demo in the eshop)
code of princess (fun arcade hack'n'slash that parodies other rpg games, marred by huge fps drops and virtually nonexistent balancing)
