"I know I'm human. And if you were all these things, then you'd just attack me right now, so some of you are still human."
-R.J. MacReady
PlotThe movie begins in the Antarctic with a Norwegian helicopter chasing a snow-dog across the icy plains. The passenger of the helicopter is shooting at the dog with a rifle. The dog eventually makes its way to an American outpost. The helicopter lands and the passenger chases after the dog into the outpost. The pilot tries tossing a grenade at the dog, but he drops it, blowing him and the helicopter up. The passenger with the gun continues shooting at the dog, but he is shot by an American before he can kill the dog.
The Americans do not know that the dog is an alien from outer space which crashed its UFO into the ice hundreds of thousands of years ago. The Norwegians had uncovered the UFO and the alien that piloted it. When the alien was unfrozen, it terrorized the Norwegian outpost which eventually led to the two Norwegians trying to kill it from the helicopter.
The alien imitates what it kills. This means that if it were to kill me, it would look, talk, and act just like me. You would have no way of knowing I was an alien. The alien perfectly copies its victims. At the beginning of the movie it takes the form of a snow-dog.
As the movie progresses, the alien slowly takes each American one-by-one, like it did to the Norwegians. The Americans need to find out who the alien is and kill it.
The GamemodeCharacters - You spawn in as 1 of 14 characters (random): MacReady, Dr. Blair, Nauls, Palmer, Childs, Dr. Copper, Norris, Bennings, Clark, Garry, Fuchs, Windows, and 2 Norwegians. Each character has a set outfit. 1 of the players spawns in as the alien at random, but looks exactly like the character he spawns as. When you click someone, it tells you their name in centerprint.
Items - Each player receives 1 or 2 items from a pool of 20 items. In this pool, there is a revolver, 2 flame throwers, a shotgun, 1 Molotov, 2 knives, 2 shovels, 2 ice-picks, 1 dynamite stick, 2 flare guns, 2 axes, 2 fire-extinguishers, and 2 flashlights. There are also items that you don't spawn with. These include: test-tube (used to gather blood from dead player), blood-tester (used to see if a blood sample is human or alien blood), batteries (used for flashlight), flares, and syringes (for extracting blood from players).
Human abilities - Humans can loot dead bodies, like in Super Murder Mystery. Humans can also double-click bodies to carry them, also like in SMM. Humans can test blood using the test-tube and the blood-tester. If they have both in their inventory, they can click with the tester which tells you if the blood is human or alien blood. When you do this, the test-tube is emptied and can be used again. The syringe can be used on living players to extract blood, but the living player must be sitting still and it takes about 3 seconds to do it (this means the player must be willing to give you their blood and must sit still for 3 seconds). Once you have extracted the blood, you can empty it into the test-tube by clicking with the test-tube if you have both in your inventory. The syringe disappears after doing this (one-use only).
Alien abilities - The alien character can do everything the humans can and more. They are given 7 item slots instead of 5. The 6th slot makes room for the alien-ability that transforms him into his alien form. This means he turns into the alien and can grab people and eat them. In this form, he can also eat dead bodies to absorb health. When the alien eats someone, it adds to the list of characters they can imitate. The alien can type "/im list" to see which characters he has consumed. He can then type "/im (character's name) to imitate that character. The process takes about 10 seconds and during that time, the alien looks like his alien form. For the imitation to be completed, the alien must not move for the 10 seconds (so the alien must do it away from everyone so he's not seen). After the imitation is complete, he has become that character. He looks like him, talks like him, and when he's clicked, it says that character's name. The 7th item slot is used for the bite ability. This can be used when you are in your human form. It can only be used once (after you bite a character, it disappears). When you bite a character, you plant part of yourself on him. After about a minute, your victim begins transforming into an alien. The process takes about 10 seconds, during which the victim is half-alien-half-human and can't move. If the 10 seconds go by and he is not killed, he transforms into a full-blown alien. This alien can then disguise as its human form like the original alien, but it cannot consume other humans; it can only kill them.
Other details:- Different parts of The Thing's soundtrack will be played randomly throughout the round, not just to make it more like the movie, but because the music is creepy/eerie.
- I'd like there to be the aspect of warmth, but it could get complicated. It would be really cool if you could freeze to death if exposed to the cold temperatures for too long. This would add a whole lot to the game. The thing could destroy the generator, leaving the humans without heat. This also means that the humans have priorities, one of them being keeping warm/the generator safe. This also means that humans should keep inside. If the generator is destroyed, they would have to start a fire by finding kerosine somewhere in the outpost.
- Supplies will be a huge part of the game. Like in the movie, players will have to adapt to the changing environment. I plan on having supplies throughout the outpost, such as wood planks, kerosine, syringes, test-tubes, blood-testers, batteries, or even ammo. I'd like this to be more than just a find-out-who's-bad-and-kill-them game. The changing environment will force players to adapt. The humans might find heat or light or boarding up doors and windows to be more important than the thing at any given time.
- There will be a maximum of 14 players. The server will have to be watched continuously due to the possibility of random killing or idiots in general. I'd like this to be less of a public, hey-everyone-come-and-play-without-knowing-how-to-play type game and more of a server of people who know what they're doing. 14 players is also a set number simply because of the amount of characters (14). Rounds will most likely need to have at least 6 or 7 players to start, but that's no different from Mafia Madness which I have hosted before. Hopefully we can get around 30 or so players who keep coming back like I have for Mafia Madness.
Details taken from Mafia Madness:- Rounds are started by admins with "/StartTT" and stopped with "/StopTT".
- After a round ends, a new round doesn't start until an admin types in the command to start it. In between rounds, players spawn with their regular names, their regular avatars, and with 5 random weapons. During this time, players can DM as they wait for the next round. This in-between round time allows for admins to take care of problems and for players to report things.
- The killfeed is presented to players through the chat at the end of each round. The Thing's name is red and the humans' name is green. Each player is presented in the killfeed by their actual name and their in-game name.
Ex: The Thing (Blok) killed Fuchs (Charles)
When The Thing consumes and imitates a player it is also shown in the killfeed.
Ex: The Thing (Blok) killed Fuchs (Charles)
The Thing (Blok) consumed Fuchs (Charles)
The Thing (Blok) imitated Fuchs (Charles) - When killed, humans are respawned at a location that is set by an admin. This location is created by standing in the spot you want humans to be respawned and typing "/SetDeadSpawn"
- When a human is killed, they become a body (like in Mafia Madness) and can be clicked. A dead body looks just like the Mafia Madness body, but it still has the avatar of the character whom it represents. When clicked, you are given their name and how they died (projectiles, blunt object, blade, or Self Delete).
- There can also be different forms of bodies/remains. Players who are killed by a flamethrower or Molotov will show up as an all black body and be unrecognizable upon clicking it. Normal dead bodies can be transformed into unrecognizable bodies if set on fire. If a player is killed by dynamite, no body is left behind, but a pool of blood appears where they died. A body can also be completely destroyed if blown up by dynamite. When The Thing kills a player while in alien form, an all red body is created and is unrecognizable. The Thing can also grab players and start consuming them while they are still alive. This is a way of skipping straight to consuming rather than killing then consuming. When a player/body is consumed, it leaves behind a pool of blood.
PicturesHere are what the avatars for each character should look like:

The last 2 are the Norwegians. The names are taken from the recent prequel of the 1982 The Thing. Although I do not like the prequel, I like the names.
I'd like the full on alien form to look a bit like
this and kind of work the same.
