do note, when joining a crusade:

- you gain a boost to your relations with the pope
- you gain a diplomatic boost with other christian nations
- you cannot expand
- you receive a diplomatic hit to non-christian nations
- you receive a one-time deduction from your main treasury in support of the church
- trade-routes established with non-christian nations are cancelled and any diplomats you have in those nations are executed
