*tips le fedora*

when you're speaking out loud, you're not just going to say "doge" out of nowhere. that wouldn't make any sense. you're going to be talking about the meme, or something relevant will be going on, whatever, but there is no reason for you to need a separate pronunciation
"So do you like da-wg?"

"Do I like dogs? Yeah, I like dogs."

"No no no, DA-HG!"

"What are you talking about, man?"

"You know, on the Internet! Dog!"

You know, I own two fedoras but I never wear them.

I mean, I would only do it in a formal setting.

"So do you like da-wg?"
"Do I like dogs? Yeah, I like dogs."
"No no no, DA-HG!"
"What are you talking about, man?"
"You know, on the Internet! Dog!"
so you actually think "dohj" would be more clear

"Have you seen that Dog meme?"
"Oh, with the big head and the 'so wow'?"
"Yeah!"

Although I'd say
"Have you seen that Doggy meme?"

i would actually pronounce it more like (daw-gay)

Initially it was used in RPs and forums by 12-year-olds that can't spell "doggy", meaning "doge" was pronounced "Dog-E". However, as its usage spread, people mocked it by pronouncing it "Doh-j". Doge wasn't really associated with anything until supershibe started blowing up and it was inevitably tagged as "doge". From there, there have been plenty of pronunciations as the general population has caught on, however the main one seems to be "Doh-j". Though, to answer your initial question, technically both "Dog-E" and "Doh-j" are correct.

so you actually think "dohj" would be more clear

Well, it is the more majorly accepted pronunciation.

i just thought it was like saying "dog" but you say it like a kid with downs or something

This opens up a whole new "does Homestar have Down syndrome" theory-line.

doh-j kinda suggests two syllables (i've been reading it "doh-jay" up until this point) which is weirding me out
dohj or doej would probably be a better way of spelling it
