Well, because to most transgendered people, it's not that they're making a conscious decision one day to start being female, it's something that they've been forever. What you're suggesting is essentially the same as "Why don't poor people just buy more money?".
I don't really think that's a perfect compairison.
If they've "been female forever" why don't they just call themselves female?

I mean the major issue with this is it's misleading in the few contexts where what genitals you have are actually relevant (e.g. dating/love).
In which case calling yourself "trans" doesn't seem to really solve it.

you sound like you would identify as an utilitarianist
looks intresting, will have to read about it and get back to you

I'm confused. Can't humans only be male or female? XX or XY (X and XXX are female, and XYY or XXY are male, the presence of Y determines male or female)? So why are people afraid to say they are male or female? How can someone be confused about gender; just get a kariotype.

Sounds good to me.
I may not know the opinion most of transgender people, but...
All of those are horribly redundant. I don't see the motive behind such an unnecessary change beyond targeted advertising, really. Kind of stupid now that I think about it - I have plenty of trans friends and none of them identify themselves as 'transmen' or 'transwomen' privately or publicly, only as men and women.

People 'outside' the 'gender binary' are a completely other weird issue.

those who identify with one of these weird special snowflake genders are mostly people wanting to stand out or feel victimized

Sure it does, since that's the idea behind the label. When you openly identify as transgender, there's no confusion with that since whoever's dating them knows what they're getting.

The transgendered person I know identifies as a transwoman. I still agree that a lot of the terms are redundant though.

Interesting diagnosis, Mr. Freud. Do you have any evidence to suggest that?

Sounds nice but do trans people really introduce themselves by saying "hey im <name> and im <gender>"
Seems like something that wouldn't come up in conversation until you've spent a lot with them (possibly) thinking they were the other gender/love.

While he obviously posted no evidence, I would love to test the hypothsis.
Maybe do a survey on how often people were bullied in school and compare how many of these decided to change genders. But even that seems like a flawed study. Would still love to see actual research to that effect though.

seriously though if you've gone this far you might as well make the gender feild a text box at this point, and remove any other possible complaints
the supporters of this are right, this doesn't affect me and I don't care all that much, I just love debating. It's also worth noting that if someone seriously told me they were one of these affiliations it'd be hard for me to take them seriously. Maybe they'd prove me wrong and an evil backwards bigot, but since I've spent very little time around these sorts of people it really doesn't seem an issue.

It's not really a testable hypothesis since there's no reliable way to measure something like that lol.

I know.
It's upsetting becuase I feel there is a chance destroyers ad hoc unresearched argument might pan out to be true in some cases.
It's hard to look at people like feminists who live and feed off victimization (true there are more moderate/legitimate feminists but it's really unfortunate that they call themselves feminists when they could just as well say "human rights activist" or "egalitarian") and not think that in the back of your mind even as you try and take them seriously.

Entire languages and social constructs shouldn't be artifically changed and reworked just to pander to a small minority.
...What are you suggesting is even being changed?
I know they're adding a bunch of gender terms, but I don't see words being changed

What you're referring to is biological love.
Gender is psychological.
In most cases it's the same but it does differ in a minority
Also, XX is female, XY is male. Having more than two love chromosomes (as you suggested XXX and XXY) would be genetic disorders, there are specific names for them but I don't remember them.

I mean you wouldn't like it if someone said the fact that you're trans is weird right? so what is it that makes you think it's okay for you to call other people weird for something so similar?
We're not similar at all.

People who identify outside of the gender binary are under the presumption there is a nongender, or a third gender, or other silly things. You cannot identify as something that does not exist, in my opinion. Many folks seem to think that 'female = pink flowery girly girl cook for me' and 'male = muscles, cars, chicks, hot tanned bodies' and they're extremely rigid. So when some men like things that can be considered feminine, like fashion, they don't feel like they fit in with society's definition of 'male' and decide to invent some buzzword to describe themselves. I'm a feminine-normative male, when really he's just a guy who likes girl things.

You don't need some special snowflake 'gender' for that.

There is only male and female, masculine and feminine - these are societal, mental, and biological facts of the human species. There is no agender, nongender, third gender. I think it's odd that people try so hard to single out their identity when it's really nothing special. You can be a girl who likes cars, a guy who likes pink, and that doesn't mean anything bad. Why invent some word for you? I'm similarly against 'cisgender' and 'I'm trans' and every other label that's been invented. Just be who you are and stop clinging to special snowflake words or misconceptions about the fluidity of gender roles.

I'm similarly against 'cisgender' and 'I'm trans'
cisgender just means "normal" - that you're biological and psychological gender match. It is needed as a definition, but using it as a label to describe yourself seems silly, I agree on that part, just say male or female
Trans is needed. at least under a dating context, so that people who are dating know fully what the person is.

i wonder how many of these people existed before the invention of tumblr
Barely enough to fill San Francisco. But then they escaped.
