Author Topic: What is your opinion on co-op type servers?  (Read 1274 times)

In my opinion, a coop server/gamemode would be far more interesting than a CityRP(Deathmatch simulator), Super Murder Mystery(deathmatch simulator with a revival system, because some people don't know how to play at all), or a deathmatch(Sure, theres the occasional one with a unique build/weapons.....). Anyone remember Cucumberdude(I think thats who it was)'s Coop challenge server or Endless Zombies? I've seen only a few servers where you fight human-ish AI enemies(bots).

Side note
I've been thinking of doing a coop build for a while where you and 9 other friends go down a mountainside and fight AI bots that do NOT respawn when killed. Its finished, but Minigame events love to screw up when I reload a save. Instead of Onminigamereset-->self-->setbottype-->blockhead, its something random when I reload. Instead of Blockhead for set bot type, its usually a horse. Onbotkilled>Setbottype>None works fine, though.

co-op type servers do not work. i actually just came from a co-op build that K9 Kid made that he had me play with another player. it was frustrating and nearly impossible to get anything done. the other player was very difficult to work with as he wouldnt cooperate. i ended up ragequitting but he shut down the server

A co-op would need to be packaged into a gamemode. Anyone wanting to play it would host it and invite there friends over steam which would force them into the server. As Planr said servers where you join and have to wait to start playing and get paired up with some random person are terrible. More things set up like Klendethu Drop would work best.

Nothing wrong with (possibly) random Co-Op.
Yes, getting paired with an idiot is frustrating, no that doesn't mean the entire concept is flawed.
Portal 2 did it alright.

this
basically campaign maps that are actually decently balanced is what we lack. by a lot.

the issue is that its hard to make coop that looks good and/or is balanced well. comr4de somehow pulled it off with his team, but I doubt a single person can do something great like that anytime soon.

the main issue is that for a campaign to work out it needs to be long, and a lot of people either don't have the patience to build it right, or don't have the skill to scale the map out correctly. in klendathu the map pans out and shrinks back down multiple times, adding variation and keeping gameplay interesting, even after multiple rounds, since survival was rather difficult.

on an entirely different note how the hell do you do multiple-answers polls like you did in the OP

I would actually like to see a co-op gamemode be made.

Bot servers don't work that well right now because Badspot scripted it so bots disappear if the owner isn't online. That means that the server can't be run without the host.

or you could just write a bit of code to make this not happen...

Someone make co-op portal when the new gun is released. You could go through a city environment rather than just a test chamber.

Another idea: Co-op parkour outrunning the cops / dodging sniper fire. (Mirror's Edge)

Co-Op can be a little bit implemented in Team Deathmatch servers if objectives are more centered upon. For instance rush gamemodes where players actually need to defend something would mean players would stay more centered on something instead of simply spilling each other's guts on the floor. It will still happen, but at least there's a task for it instead of "kill everything", which sounds more like cooperation to me. Outside of that, inspired by Warface, 2 pads on which players can be on and if a player is on both pads they basically climb up on a ledge that wouldn't be reachable by normal and would give them a height advantage or something. I did something like this, but it's kind of broken as I can't find any good way to figure out if to launch the players up or not without using relays which may become problematic.

I have been working on Blockventure...

I've been thinking for a little while of making a mission-based Co-Op server for a little while now, or possibly a 'defense' sort of thing where hordes of bots try to kill the players each round or something.
I've been putting it off though because i'm a lazy forget.

Does anybody know if the game can render two separate PlayGUIs at once? I would love to try a split-screen game mode.

Split-screen on PC? Two people using the same keyboard?

I've had some cooperative teamwork stuff on trench war servers where you had an objective.

I and a few others collaborated building a huge wall which was alot of fun, then we tunneled to the enemy base and even had people help defend us.

Also Blockland seems a bit difficult to do teamwork or cooperation right unless you are really lucky or really know what you're doing.
