Author Topic: [Petition] Maximum penalty for Missouri teenagers caught beating dog in viral vi  (Read 7225 times)

Putting these kids in prison wont help anything. Counseling/Rehabilitation is what they really need, maybe with some Community Service. At least CS is productive.

but people make mistakes sometimes
it's not intentional
what do you mean by "mistake"? there's nothing accidental about it

I agree with this. If I were in a position where I could not provide for my pets, I would give them to the nearest shelter where they could be fed and taken care of.

if there's a women in africa who can't even feed herself and she has a child who starves to death then it is her fault
same goes with a dog, it's common sense not to bring more hungry mouths into an equation when you can't afford it

I'm pretty sure the most you can get for assault on another person is 5 years.
so really it should be anything under that.

I didn't understand your post at first.

Assault has a maximum penalty of 5 years, because assault is the threat of harm.
For example, aiming a gun at someone.

Battery, however, is an actual attack on the person, as in, punching them, which has a maximum sentence of 100 years.
A 100 year sentence is very rare though.

might i remind people that animals are just property? there is very little addon punishments just because its an animal.
the crime would have been worse had it not been his own dog. because that would be stealing or destruction or property.

idiots think animals = people lol

If we had slavery, people would be just objects as well. Life is what is important. Either live a good life or get a quick death. Suffering is what people dislike.

The maximum penalty for assault is 100 years.
It depends on how badly injured the person/animal is.

i was talking about it was accidental for leaving a pet like if you moved because it could be accidental but also animal abuse

These people did not threaten the dog. They attacked it.
I'm against this petition but that is a flawed argument.

animals would rather suffer than be dead

Of course it's her fault, but would you consider it intentional?
she was out of money, what was she to do? She didn't purposely do it

unless like y know she purposely wanted to starve it or something

People can run out of money anywhere in the world. 1 month i could be able to feed a family of 4 and 2 dogs, but then the next something could have happened and i can barely feed myself, let alone a family and animals. stuff happens.

i was reffering to people in constant poverty, the circumstances surrounding it do effect the punishment

Animal abuse is terrible, but I don't think it is as bad as abusing a child or another human.

Literally, no, since they were black.

Morally, probably since most of the animal abusers I know are white guys. The black guys love their dogs :(

I don't know about that, a large amount of stray dogs come from many urban areas with majority black demographics.
