my dad sometimes gets put on call when he ends up with weekend duty. he works as a technician/post processing inspector for an acrylite manufacturer.
though he tends to get called in sometimes anyways if there's a power outage (which is very bad, shutting down a line and bringing it back up can take at least a week) or someone can't figure out how to get something working

He has a stuffty shift. He shouldn't be told to "grow up" just because someone else had it worse.

Not at all what happened. He was complaining about a shift that he hadn't even accepted yet and was talking like the company was out to get him. He DOES need to grow up. It's pretty sad when you complain to a bunch of 13 year olds about how bad your job is.

You know whats equally irritating but for a different reason? When your employer (keep in mind I work part time) schedules you for less than three hours at a time. It costs me almost as much to drive there as I get paid, and then I waste 3 hours (or less) of my time. It is ridiculous. I would hate to be in your situation though. Employers can make stupid scheduling decisions at times.
