vanilla minecraft is boring so i suggest getting a few modpacks, or joining some servers with custom plugins.

anarchy servers and hardcore pvp servers are pretty much the only worthwhile vanilla things in minecraft right now

if you haven't had a lot of experience with MC and the little experience you have had with a version that's a lot further behind than PC has been enjoyable, you'll probably be safe to ignore people that tell you everything was better in the past.

the vanilla game is fun for awhile until you're over it, and that can last a long time. most people here have been playing for ages, and honestly the game's mostly been improved.

and even when the game does get boring, modpacks and multiplayer will make it interesting again.

This, but be sure to buy the PC version. Console versions are crap because they're not only behind on vanilla content, but you also can't mod them. And that's not even mentioning controls.

I like modpacks more than the original game nowadays. I'm playing FTB Monster right now and there are almost unlimited options. With friends the game can be fun for a year or so. I remember a friend and I would play faction servers with heavy PVP. T'was pretty fun.
