it does render backfaces if you tell it to :/
Blockland itself does not... and if it does, all you're doing is doubling the faces anyway.

Actually you can just flip the normals on one set of faces and it'll work from all angles while keeping the count low

but seriously, a potato clock can handle slightly high-poly torque models, why are we getting into such a debate about this

Ah, I see exactly what you're saying. I still think you should use triangular strings, but I guess it's really just a question of style at this point.

I made an attempt at a banjo.  Made an attempt to keep it kind of "blocko".

I made an attempt at a banjo.

That's pretty sweet, but a few things are bugging me.  I play the banjo a bit myself so I'm noticing some proportion errors.

1) The peghead is too small relative to the neck.  Perhaps if you made the neck taper down as it nears the peghead, it would fix that issue.

2) The neck is way too long.  The neck and peghead combined are rarely any longer than twice the head.

3) That metal thing at the bottom, the tailpiece, connects to the bottom edge of the banjo.  It can be any size, but it's never disconnected from the edge.

4) The pot of the banjo is way too thin.  It should be about as thick as the resonator.

Fix those proportion issues and it's golden.

meh, whichever.  I don't care enough.

Here's another:

I'm sure it's full of specific proportion problems.  Oh well.  I don't care anymore.  If anyone wants the blends, I'll post them.

I'm fairly sure I've seen something that looks amazingly similar to those models...

Well, I'm at least flattered that you'd think they're good enough to have been stolen. :p

No, no... I'm sure of it...

Hang on, I have to go check my history...

Wise advice for Blockland modeling: Don't make anything thin.
If you're a blender user and you often model in high-poly, use the decimate modifier to help.

It looks like something from a bad late 90s PC game... not sure what the definition of low poly is, here. :|

CELLOS AND SAXOPHONES! forget YES!

I've made two of the instruments needed.

The Flute:

... And the Free Reed Aerophone:

Flute has 52 vertices, and the Areophone has 142.
And as always I have made sure every face can be seen (and isn't hiding inside the mesh)

Plastiware, PM me if ya want :J (I may make more)

A flute isn't used like that.
