I think the shooting would have been justified if he attempted to charge the officers.

I'll tell you this because you're too much of a sperg to read the loving article, this thing went down over the course of three hours. The man who was shot and killed, James Boyd, was complying with the officer's orders until one of the officers set off a flashbang for no apparent reason.

Because of the flashbang's effects, Boyd could not respond to the officer's demands to get on the ground and was immediately shot by the officers. When he fell to the ground, Boyd started to plead with the officers not to kill him. While this was happening, one of the officers readied a shotgun loaded with beanbag rounds and shot Boyd more than three times before the victim died.

If the man had pulled out a gun then yes he should have been shot.
If he had ran at them with the knife then yes he should have been shot.
He did not do either of those things. He was not an immediate threat.
It is the job of police to protect the people. It is not the job of police to flashbang and kill the homeless. He was well out of swinging distance and about to walk away. This is not a reason to shoot him dead, especially when you have nonlethal means of taking him down.
