Author Topic: ever heard of fostering?  (Read 1617 times)

local petsmart here is $50-$100 for cats. Most of the time they are adults. usually the $50 is because the cat has some issues, mainly with other animals or disability, or its an older adult.

Purebreds are a huge waste of goddamn money. Seriously, is a normal dog not loving good enough for you? Just because people let them have love with the same color dog doesn't make them better. By that logic, black and white people are both fine, but mixtures are somehow inferior.

I'd never forget a mulatto.

I'd never forget a mulatto.
dude some mulattos are loving hot

My cat was $110. That covered adoption process, several vaccines, a neutering, toys, and some assorted food samples. Good deal IMO.

Most of our dogs are purebreds though. We've spent as much as $2000 on adopting a single dog before.

It's worth it though to own a purebred. I'd rather have a dog with less of a chance of becoming ill and having constant health problems.

we talked about this. purebred dogs are the ones with health problems, not mutts

I have a pure breed jack russel, paid 4,500$ for it.Divide that price by 1000. (45$) Though the owners wanted 200$ for it, but my dad was good friends with him, so he talked it down.

I'd say he was worth it, he's nice and is always energetic.

I don't really understand some of your wording in there....but my family had a purebred Jack Russell Terrier (1998-2013). My mom got her for about $300-400.

There's no reason that mixed-breeds would have health problems, just as mulattos don't. If anything, purebreds do because of a much higher chance of inbreeding.

How about...
buy a cat.
They cost like 25 bucks at my local pet smart as adults.

How much are they where you are?
Who would want an adult cat?

I'm pretty sure they're also more prone to genetic health complications

Who would want an adult cat?
Somebody who doesn't want a kitten which basically equates to a human baby only it can get on your desk.

Just stepping back in to give something to think about.  I'm not one of those dog people who need a purebred, but my mom is.  One thing I can say to stick up for her, though.

Choose between a $40 adoption for a mixed adult mutt or $500 for a carefully selected genetics purebred show dog puppy.
For me and most of you, the mixed mutt looks better, but the carefully bred dog is least likely to have health problems.  You also get bragging rights around "dog communities".

Now imagine a teenage girl is going out looking for a car and the first thing that comes up is a '03 Honda Civic with 125,XXX miles for $2,500.  She snaps it up.  She then goes and criticizes people who buy new Lamborghinis for $250,000.
The Civic is more likely to have issues, but the Lamborghini is so cool, new, and less likely to have issues.

Doesn't really matter which way you go cause it is kind of a win-win situation.  In the case of the dogs, you may be some young guy who seriously doesn't care about the dog except for color and personality and doesn't think blowing money on a cool dog is worth it.  They both have similar life spans and stuff.  If the purebred dog DOES get sick (or dies), your wallet is going to be harder hit.

With the car, buying the Civic increases your chances of problems with it.  However, repairs are going to be less costly and easier to find.  With the Lamborghini, you will get loads of attention, but if something ever goes wrong mechanically or you wreck the car, dude that'll hurt.
