Started playing FTL again to check out the advanced edition content and I have been killed by complete bullstuff like 10 times in a row.

Here's the latest:

I have this ship on the ropes, one health, seconds away from victory.  Then he fires an ion intruder drone into my engine bay.  As soon as that drone hits, the game should just end immediately because there is nothing you can loving do:

  • The drone is tough as balls so it would take 3 of 4 rounds of fighting/healing it kill it
  • It breaches the hull on entry, you have to fight it in a vacuum
  • Fighting it doesn't stop it from ionizing the room
  • When it ionizes the room it stuns everyone inside, who then just sit there in the vacuum dying
  • It can attack fast enough to lock down two rooms continuously
  • The two rooms are my engine and weapons so I can't escape or attack.

The only counter would be drones of my own, but this is sector 2, it was a miracle I had the cloaking device already.

easy difficulty in that game is actually veteran

complete assforget

its the frustration and wanting to best the game why we keep going.
atleast why i still haven't broken FTL

Brb checking it out for myself.

I will find some way to avoid bullstuffness.

I really don't find the game that hard. What are your tactics when you start to fight another ship?

i can hardly get anywhere in easy mode, except for one game where i got to the last sector. i didn't get anywhere near the boss, because i made the rookie mistake of not watching my ship (oxygen got disabled, didn't realize it until everyone was almost dead). i did manage to get the federation cruiser in that same run by other means, however.

I've beaten the game several times on normal with the regular ship and the engi ship but these zoltans are starfishs.  I nearly died from full life from a single fire in the door room.  I sent two guys in there and they couldn't put the thing out before they were at critical health.  By the time they healed up half the ship was on fire and I couldn't vent it to space because the door controls were on fire.

The game is hard, but maybe a bit too loving hard. (And unfair.)

flak cannons are pretty stupid too D:

The flak cannon MKII is pretty beast. Well worth buying it. I used it to fight off the boss.

I don't get far enough to buy one because there's always some NPC with it in the third sector.

i like to compare this game to the binding of isaac. isaac is a roguelike, as is FTL, but you're able to get better and better at isaac. the entire game isn't just a RNG. you can play the entire game without upgrades, and still do fine because you have constant control over isaac. not only that, but combinations of certain items you can find in the game can allow you to become absolutely overpowered. in FTL however, in my experience, you'll never feel OP. you're always at a disadvantage, there's always an enemy that is much stronger than you.
if you die in the binding of isaac, it's because of your own skill level. if you die in FTL, it's because the RNG hates you.

I have found this steam guide to be VERY useful. Here's an image to sum it up if you don't want to read it all:
