basically it made it so states are allowed to make everyone equal instead of giving preference to people based on their minority status alone (or at least thats my understanding)

Affirmative action is absolutely handicapped and I feel very strongly that it should never be implemented, ever. It's literally just as bad as racial discrimination, just towards the majority. We had a serious oversensitivity to race and gender in the US to the point that white people are at a disadvantage because nobody "pities" them and it's not right. You want equality? Give us loving equality. I feel this way about some (but not all) feminists that I prefer to call "antimasculinists."

Glad this was done.  Affirmative action only gave special privileges to those who represented themselves as minorities, or underrepresented.  People should be admitted to schools by their achievement and performance alone.
