Author Topic: computer making weird sound  (Read 1330 times)

when i listen closely i can hear what appears to be the harddrive making a sound that sounds like constantly discharging static electricity. should i be worried?

Discharging electricity? Something more specific? Hums, grinding noises, small clicks, sparks?

Any of these? Generally if a hard drive has a problem, You're going to know it.

My drive sounds like many of these. Especially when starting up.

Harddrives shouldn't click or make drilling noises.

it sounds like a less intense version of " Samsung desktop drive with degraded media making scratching sound when hitting bad sectors."

It clicks, makes grinding noises, hums, scratches something but it's still running.

If you're running Windows, run a CHKDSK on the drive. If it's your main drive, you'll need to reboot into Real Mode or Repair Mode. If it finds bad sectors, it will save it in the system registry and not touch that area of the drive.

omfg
i was gonna try and record it but i found the issue
it was a candy wrapper stuck in the fan (which is right next to my harddrive) ;-;
