You might want to look into Darkest of Days. it's a FPS civil war and WWI with historical battles, it's got time travel, but it's a good one

As long as people keep buying the IP it's gonna keep being made. The thing that should happen is just something different from the modern stuff. CoD's doing it with the next game and I am for some reason optimistic, because A) It's not IW and B) It's not IW.
BF5 should be pulling ideas from older games, like WW2 or whatever the hell was going on in 2142.
