Author Topic: not so illegal stuff in my school...  (Read 4678 times)

jeez blocking google images is a bit much
that's like blocking Wikipedia

my school does this with our computer lab, scary thing is that they can take control of them whenever they want.
My old school did that too. Except for the fact that he could shut the computers down from his location.

Ah, the USA's remarkably flawed education system.

EDIT: Thinking about it, I don't think they have a choice. They're probably a requirement in public schools as a human safety measure.

My school blocks system monitor and command prompt. Literally there is no way of getting to it. My old school didn't though
wright up a .bat file to open it directly at home, then put it on a flash drive in a hidden folder.

frankie they use those computers to make sure you're not going on websites to play games or going on google images

i mean SEEEEERIOUSLY
Then why don't they just get a network based firewall lol

It is completely legal for them to monitor their own computers. If you don't want them to monitor you, don't use their property or bring your own. It is that simple.

Perhaps they purchased the software due to budgets. How their budget works is that at the beginning of the year the estimate their costs of operation and are given money THEY MUST SPEND or else next year they're going to be approved for less money. It's stupid but it might be why

your cool

My school runs mostly on WiFi. Kids originally weren't supposed to know the password but someone got wind of it and spread it. Now everyone uses it. Staff won't do anything about it, but they won't spread it further.

The WiFi blocks a lot of things, but it isn't as bad as most that I've read in here. Imgur is blocked with "adult", Blockland (including forums) is blocked for "games", Yahoo answers and the likes are blocked for "forums", and many words aren't even permitted to be searched, such as "proxy". Easily bypassed with "proxee" though.

Are you able to bring your own computer? I know some schools allow it. If you own the computer they cannot install software onto it without your permission.

VPN while connected would fix this.
