Uh oh.

yeah i know all it's going to do is start them up bashing at me once again for my "stupidity" in not believing everything scientists feed me, forget me for my opinions.
your opinions are a reflection of paranoia and based off a backbone of un-impressive evidence
if you have genuine evidence then everybody here is willing to change their ideas, until then you're just an anti-science nut

I just find it ridiculous that I can link to some very respected scientific organizations that verify that climate change is occurring, and you just brush it off.

Anyone who doesn't believe in climate change might as well say that the atmosphere and all its related subjects doesn't exist, such as the Greenhouse Effect and the ozone layer, weather, the water cycle, etc.  It's just a part of everything that happens naturally.

On a side note and I'm pretty sure I've said this somewhere, I don't look at global warming as a problem.

Obviously, temperature readings wouldn't have been accurate 1,000 years ago, so I don't know exactly where all that comes from.  The past 100 years is well-documented though.  It just goes up and down and by the looks of it, we just happen to be going up right now.  I'll bet that by the year 2200, we'll be going down again.

I do not see the problem here. The water level is not going to rise at all, it's already at it's full extent since the ice is already in the water. Grab a bowl, fill it with water and drop an icecube or two. Mark the water level, then come back when the icecubes have melted. The water level is going to be the same.
That's a pretty nice brown townogy you have there, except for the small problem that it's loving handicapped because it doesn't take scale into factor. Imagine you have a mountain full of ice floating on an island in the ocean. If the mountain melts, where does the water go?

Obviously, temperature readings wouldn't have been accurate 1,000 years ago, so I don't know exactly where all that comes from.

I believe those temperature come from things like tree rings, coral depositions, and other things I don't really know.

I mean since when was Climate Change ever not occuring? Its clearly happening. However for this situation it appears that they're fretting and squealing over the ice breaking off but tell you little about the ice that's growing larger.

I don't remember if Blake1 ever realized that Global Warming is real but if he didn't, I have witnessed it first loving hand.

So I'm in Iceland and I'm about to climb a glacier. We drive there and we park. The glacier itself a huge walk away. I mean literally it was a 20 minute walk to get there. I ask the guy taking me why it was so far away from the car park and he told me it used to go up to the car park. Due to global warming it had shrunk. When I got there streams of water were coming down and all the ice was dripping. If you can't accept global warming then you are a loving inconsiderate moron. No, global warming isn't "opinion" and it isn't some theory you crazy mother forgeter. Someone once made the argument that we can't change the climate because God is the only one who can decide what the climate is. And to that I say this is also in the bible.

Blake1, I don't know your reasons for not believing Evolution. Though I am here to help you out. See, in the real world, little to no one will respect you if the only argument you can pull when supporting your claim is that you don't trust nearly ever scientist to ever live. Have you ever learnt Darwin's finches studies? No? Yes? Tell me because if you haven't you are in for a ride. Darwin observed finches on different islands and noticed they had different beaks. Now I'm going to pull your excuse and say "I'm too lazy" and just leave it at that for his observations. So lets take in to the following idea he had: the finches went to the different islands (and obviously had no way of getting out, they likely came on a fallen tree or something). Over time they evolved (crazy, ikr) to eat different kinds of seed that were available on the island. See this is why this happens: two finches are born, one happens to have a genetic mutation that makes his been thinner and longer (this can happen, chance and radiation and other factors). He can then eat more seeds that are in the ground, enabling him to eat more food. Since he is more healthy he can have more children with more birds, and then his children now have the long thin beaks. Eventually the old beak is eradicated because the birds who looked healthier were favored during mating.

bashing at my opinions. Not to mention it was getting late and I really did not feel like debating, plus it's really hard to back up my case when I'm not a good debator.
"YOU'LL NEVER CATCH ME, FORUMS! NOT WHEN I SHIFT INTO... MAXIMUM SPERGODRIVE!"

Can't we all just get along and use less cars

Can't we all just get along and use less cars
don't you know

that we have to keep on shoving our opinions down each other's throat to keep the world from exploding? Arguing over nonsense also keeps the evil monster named "Pro-Greshun" away. I like my little world and to hell with anyone that doesnt agree with me, just after I beat them with my pixels.
(I can't think of any real reason behind the arguing, it gets us nowhere and is a waste of bandwidth)

The issue with climate change in a nutshell:

Yes, the earth has seen this much CO2 and greenhouse gases before.
However it hasn't seen this much pop up in just 2 centuries. Normally it takes a few more millennia for that to happen.

I mean since when was Climate Change ever not occuring? Its clearly happening. However for this situation it appears that they're fretting and squealing over the ice breaking off but tell you little about the ice that's growing larger.

It may have grown in size in 2013, but the average over time shows a steady decline in the area of the ice sheets

stuff

Nice, a conspiracy theory site. But when NASA still says the ice is decreasing...
www.nasa.gov/vision/earth/environment/ice_sheets.html
I would be inclined to trust NASA.

I also found this on the National Snow & Ice Data Center website concerning the matter...
http://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/2013/08/the-balding-arctic/
"Sea ice extent continues to track well below average levels (average of 1981 to 2010), though remains within two standard deviations of the long-term mean. Retreat rates increased slightly in the western Beaufort Sea and Chukchi Sea, but ice cover remains extensive in those regions compared to 2012. Another major difference between ice extent during 2012 and this year is the much greater extent in the East Siberian Sea. Low ice extent in this region observed last year was in part attributed to the effects of the “Great Cyclone of 2012” (see previous post of August 14, 2012)."

The Great Cyclone of 2012? Let's see...

"A low pressure system entered the Arctic Ocean from the eastern Siberian coast on August 4 and then strengthened rapidly over the central Arctic Ocean. On August 6 the central pressure of the cyclone reached 964 hPa, an extremely low value for this region. It persisted over the central Arctic Ocean over the next several days, and slowly dissipated.
...
Low pressure systems over the Arctic Ocean tend to cause the ice to diverge or spread out and cover a larger area. These storms often bring cool conditions and even snowfall.
...
However, the effects of an individual strong storm, like that observed in early August, can be complex. While much of the region influenced by the August cyclone experienced a sudden drop in temperature, areas influenced by winds from the south experienced a rise in temperature. Coincident with the storm, a large area of low concentration ice in the East Siberian Sea (concentrations typically below 50%) rapidly melted out. On three consecutive days (August 7, 8, and 9), sea ice extent dropped by nearly 200,000 square kilometers (77,220 square miles). This could be due to mechanical break up of the ice and increased melting by strong winds and wave action during the storm."

So, a huge storm caused a large amount of ice to melt. Let's check back on the August 2013 article to see why the ice has made a bit of a comeback in the Arctic.

"However, satellite data show extensive low-concentration areas within the ice cover, which appear to have developed in response to the frequent passage of storm systems. These weather patterns also result in lower-than-average air temperatures over the Arctic."

"Satellite data from the AMSR-2 instrument and MODIS show an unusually large expanse of low-concentration sea ice (20 to 80% cover) within our extent outline (15% or greater, using the SSM/I sensor) spanning much of the Russian side of the Arctic and extending to within a few degrees of the North Pole. A small area north of the Kara Sea has concentrations below 30%. ... The University of Washington’s Pan-Arctic Ice Ocean Modeling and Assimilation System (PIOMAS) model and other models of ice thickness continue to indicate thin ice cover this summer."

"The pattern of unusually low pressure centered near the pole in 2013 has helped to spread the ice out and is consistent with generally cool conditions over much of the Arctic Ocean, inhibiting melt."

"Climate conditions since June have been variable, but the most recent surge in ice growth has occurred during a period of unusually high pressure over the center of the continent, resulting in a slowing of the circumpolar winds, warm winter conditions for the central ice sheet areas (Vostok Station and Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station both had periods of spring-like -30s earlier in the month), and cold conditions in the Bellingshausen, allowing ice to grow extensively there."

So it seems like it is accounted for. While I don't fully understand some of it, it seems that fluctuating weather conditions led to substantial ice melt in 2012, and then a large amount of thin ice to come up in 2013.

was this seriously needed
yes

Quite frankly, these arguments are pointless. Nobody's going to change their mind.
