Author Topic: Solar Roadways could change the future of energy generation.  (Read 3115 times)

It all has to do with comfort IMO. Virtual boy and the 3DS ended up gimmicks because they're uncomfortable, but if the oculus right doesn't hurt my neck to wear, gets an increase in pixel density, and doesn't give me a headache/vertigo, I don't think it's just gonna be a gimmick.

well i mean i say more because they're scattered all over the place like i'll just see some rude ass reply and its like man what the hell
I really don't think I'm being rude? if I am, it's definitely no more rude than he was already
you're being really vulgar though, so that's something

They were just purchased by Facebook, and they are actively developing a product that is not on market yet, so I can't say it's surprising that their company isn't growing.

this

Nightfox said that people are gonna put down the occulus rift and use a keyboard and mouse like everyone else. This shows he has no idea how it works, it's not used to do controls. It's used in place of a monitor.

Its a gimmick. Facebook bought it so nothing good will come out of it.

Ooh! I have an idea!

How about nobody yet knows for sure what's going to happen with it because WE CAN'T SEE THE FLIPPIN' FUTURE.

The most we can do is speculate. But unless you intervene yourself, you can't guarantee anything.

Pretty much, it will turn all of the roads into solar panels with LED lights that can be programmed to change to any color and can also melt snow off of them

IMO this looks like it would be amazing if it actually works.

Excessively expensive, would cost a crapton to implement, inconvenient to replace roads with this tech as well.
In addition the maintenance costs would be through the loving roof.
But hey, if PV systems get to a point where you could just churn out a one-meter plate for like dirt cheap then yes, these systems would pay for themselves, we would maybe have infinite energy until the human race dies out or something, and yeah everything would be great. And it might happen in our lifetimes. But at the end of the day the technology to produce photovoltaic cells at cheap enough to offset the initial cost or even make it worth it doesn't exist yet. Probably won't for years and years to come, unfortunately.
Good idea, but too optimistic. Small-scale might work, large not so much.

are you really comparing the 3ds with the virtual boy

i-i think he is...

lol do you guys have to argue about every single little loving thing?

It doesn't actually work though. On top of being several times more expensive then normal roadway, it also is way more costly to maintain. Roads get dirty, solar panels don't like dirt. It would be a way better idea to focus on putting solar panels on tops of houses instead of making a road surface out of it.
don't they actually have built in utilities to prevent things like this

Unless they have wipers on them I don't see how they're gonna do anything about dirt that doesn't require a ton of maintenance. Then on top of this people being people they'll just go out and vandalize and break them for fun.

Its a gimmick. Facebook bought it so nothing good will come out of it.
That means Facebook funds it. As long as they don't fire any of the original researchers, it shouldn't change much.

you got scammed

super loving expensive.

Please tell that to future generations when we all wear gas masks to filter out the toxins in the air

"At least we saved money!"

Green Energy will be super expensive at first, but eventually it will pay for itself because we wont be running out of sun, wind, or moving water any time soon. However, solar roadways may not be the best direction. Roof mounted solar panels might be a better idea given the current state of the technology. Solar Panels are not that efficient yet.

People go out and vandalize things already. Thats a stuffty argument. "People will vandalize them" well no stuff sherlock, thats why they are composed of replaceable segments. If one gets damaged you don't need to repave the whole road, just replaced the damaged ones.
