So I got into the beta, and you have to wait, or pay when all your characters die/get smashed.

Has anyone else got into the beta? This is basically Lego Universe 2.

Discuss pls

I wonder how you get into the beta.

Why didn't they just fix what was obviously wrong with Lego Universe instead of making an entirely new game?

netdevil, the company making the game, was shut down.

LEGO Minifigures Online or LEGO Micropayments Online?

I've been beta testing this game since November 2013, the microtransactions (specifically the wait times if all your minifigures die) weren't added until a week or two ago. It's really quite a shame, the game can be fairly fun if you're playing with friends... Until you're mobbed by enemies, all your minifigures die, and you either have to wait or pay up. Funcom seems to be changing the exact waiting time, it's gone everywhere from one minute to 10 minutes to nearly four hours. The War Z anyone? Anyway, hit Ctrl B in-game to open the feedback form, and whine about it. Hopefully they'll listen and ditch it.

@Dre5567, no. NetDevil was alive for quite a while after LU shut down, working on some game called Fortune Online that apparently never got finished. LEGO bought LU from Gazillion/NetDevil in early 2011, along with most of the studio, which was renamed to Play Well Studios, which was shut down along with the game in early 2012. People disagree as to why the game closed but the "official" answer from LEGO is that they couldn't make enough money to justify running it and maintaining update development.

I wouldn't really compare this game to LU though. It's more along the lines of a kid-friendly Diablo or Torchlight - action RPG stuff. Maybe a dash of Skylanders.

The art style is the best part of the game IMO. It's got some really nice looking environments, and more LEGO models and elements than normal LEGO games by TT.

but making an entirely new game costs more than just updating an older one..?

netdevil, the company making the game (Lego Universe), was shut down.

The studio developing LU at the time of its closure (Play Well Studios, not NetDevil, though Play Well Studios used to be part of NetDevil) was closed at the same time as LU. LU wasn't closed because Play Well Studios was closed, they went down together because LU supposedly flopped.

Though that still doesn't answer the underlying question of why LEGO thought it was a good idea to close LU and then make not one but two new online games in its place, Chima Online and Minifigures Online.

"Oh no, our MMO failed! Let's scrap it make two more!"

Wait, I just realized. Isn't the Open Beta starting tomorrow?

I find that unlikely considering they just launched the final phase of closed beta yesterday. All we know for sure is that open beta is coming sometime in June. I've heard a supposed date of June 15 but I dunno where it came from or if it's legit.

I know I'm under NDA but the Marylin Monroe minifigure is pretty OP

yessssssssssss
lego universe 2
was so happy when lego universe opened up, this is pretty awesome even if there are microtransactions.
