IIRC, the koopalings are Bowser Jr.'s costume options, like how Wario had the classic attire, none of that MK8 crap.

oh thank god, they wasted so much potential for other new characters in MK8, they could've just practically been 1 character split into 9 costumes in it, also baby rosalina and PGP were stuffty additions
