Personally I'd prefer a couple more Metroid characters. Like, Samus isn't the only bounty hunter. There is also Rundas, Noxus, Sylux aka Samus's rival. Samus isn't the only one with a super loving powerful ancient suit. They have so much potential yet they leave these guys out because "they weren't interesting enough".

Maybe Young link from majora's mask. Every special could be a different transformation using his main 3 masks or something along the lines of that, I mean, it could work.
Skull kid is a possibility as well, don't know why they didn't consider it.

Potentially more F-zero characters. Or maybe just one, and the only one I can think of is Black bull? I think that was his name. Black Bull/Hawk. Or Blood Falcon.

Maybe see the return of snake in the future.

Well, the game is called 'Super Smash Bros', the title is basically 'Super Mario Bros' with 'Mario' replaced with 'Smash', and Mario's been a main foreground character on the box art since the N64, so it's kind of their right as the face of the game to have a bunch of characters

man, I heard roy was such a beloved and iconic character. he's pretty much a staple of all fire emblem games.
