You should search up some good bases on the internet. Type in 'Good bases for town hall 5'.
It will show you where to place certain things to help defend your base better.

I completely laid waste to the two people I attacked in clan wars today. The first guy was leveled entirely and the second had 97% damage (ran out of time with two buildings left). 340,000 gold/elixir and 200 dark on the way if we hold our lead.
