Author Topic: Fallout 3 GOTY Edition Crashes every few minutes  (Read 1136 times)

So it now goes past the opening cut scene, but sometimes it will just randomly crash, either after I create my character, after I'm born, or a bit into the opening cutscene.

The same happened to me but I used a fix that this thread said. Follow the instructions on the second post on the thread.

when I search for the .ini file, it shows 6 notepad things, which I all opened and none of them had bUseThreadedAI=0
the notepad files were:
setup
setup
low
high
medium
veryhigh

Again, I got this on a disk, so not from steam. Does this change anything?
And the box had two disks, but they both look the same and both say fallout 3 goty

Try this.

Uninstall the game, move the save folder to another location.
Restart your PC to make sure to clean up anything in the memory.
Install the game.
After that, put on the 2nd disc (DLC). You must wait it for autorun, or hold the SHIFT key to stop autorun and do it manually. Anyway, you must be patient! Just run it one time!
After minutes of waiting, install the DLC.

Are you sure you dont have the ini. I'm pretty sure you should have the ini

is both the steam and disk version of fallout 3 not optimzed for windows 7?
or is it just the steam version?

if the problem is it's not optimzed for windows 7, and that's what you are using, i can try and find the webpage that helped me fix my fallout 3

I'm a Fallout veteran.
There are some pretty freaky glitches in-game.

Like immortal-noodle-zombie-mutants.

I don't know any glitch that could crash a new game, You might be out of storage space.

neither are optimized, you'll need to mod it for it to function

It wont let me save the notepad, it says I don't have permission.
Even though I am the administrator.

I have a feeling you are looking in the wrong directory for the .ini files. Try going to your documents folder and search for a folder called "My Games". Inside there should be another folder called "Fallout3". It should have the files you need to edit.

I found the ini file but

Tried running as administrator?

It's probably read only. Right click it, go to properties, and see if read only is checked.

Fixed, thanks for helping.
