WHAT'S GOING ON?

Welcome to the sixth installment in Sid Jairo's Europa Forumalis! In Victoria, players are limited to playing as weaker, less advanced nations in an effort to either preserve their last shreds of individuality or embrace the arrogant western imperialists. Spreading the one true faith to other nations will ensure a righteous victory. Westernizing will pave the way towards a crushing conquest.

Westernization will be a lengthy and difficult process for those that choose the path of technological enlightenment. Riots will be frequent. Your military will lose faith and automatically disband. Your friends and allies will become your bitterest enemies. Military coups and assassinations will be attempted depending how good of a leader you were or how pious you were. Stability will come crashing down and so will any chance you would have of fighting a war, even against a weaker neighbor. Some nations have special ways to westernize, such as Japan and China. These special nations ignore the westernization criteria in favor of their exclusive conversion process (will be brought up by me when the time is right).

Individualization, also known as isolationism, will increase the piety of one's nation; reducing the effectiveness of enemy missionaries while boosting your own, drastically increasing troop morale, and giving an additional defensive bonus against attackers, especially those deemed as heretics (other religions). However, being pious will also reduce technological advancement as well as trade. Being isolationist means giving up any external interaction outside of your immediate neighbors. Trading with the European powers will be impossible, leaving you with your adjacent friends for trade.

HOW IS THIS PLAYED?
Simply claim a nation (criteria listed below) and roleplay! It's as simple as one post.

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT NATIONS I CAN CHOOSE?
1. Make sure the nation is not located in or part of Europe
2. Make sure the nation does not follow Christianity in any province
3. Make sure the nation is not the Ottomans, Mamluks, or Persia
4. Make sure the "nation" is not already owned by a European power

WHAT DOES RELIGION DO?
Religion is a very powerful aspect in Victoria. On the map above, you can see the 5 types of religion I've categorized and streamlined for this RP: Indigenous religions (red), Hinduism (orange), Christianity (yellow), Islam (green), and Buddhism (blue).

Religion is the key for an isolationist victory. Converting one of the Great Powers (Russia and the United Kingdom) to your religion will win you the game. It will not be an easy process, however. The Great Powers do not like foreign missionaries in their lands and are totally willing to invade and claim your territory as their own if you try to interfere with their staunch Christian beliefs. Religiously overwhelming either Great Power will be a difficult task indeed and truly a feat for the ages.

HOW DO I WESTERNIZE?
In order to westernize, a nation must meet the following criteria:
- Have a territory adjacent to one belonging to a European power
- Achieve religious unity by converting all provinces in your empire to Christianity (can only be performed once foreign traders are allowed)
- Renounce your national culture in favor of a European one
- Prevent all rebellions that spring up from gaining anything significant/seceding

WHAT TECHNOLOGIES ARE THERE?
If you seriously have no ideas in terms of what technologies existed, here's a series of screenshots to give you an idea:

RULES

1. Battles between players are settled in several posts between one another
2. Make your technological advancements reasonable. Technologies for non-western nations should take at least 5 years. Techs for westernized nations should take at least 2
3. Map edits that are not included in the OP are not final unless identified as such
4. Act within reason (that includes omniscience/metagaming/powergaming)
5. Trade is allowed
6. You cannot sell/give away/donate/whatever territories
7. Teching up too fast does carry a penalty. Being ahead of time will drastically increase the time it takes to finish researching a tech.
8. Naval combat will be handled similar to land battles
9. You may form alliances and defensive pacts and all that shenanigans
10. You cannot RP for nations you do not control
11. You cannot blitzkrieg other nations right out of the gate
12. Try to stay within reason of the era.
13. When fighting, you must wait for your opponent to respond before commencing your next attack
14. No, you do not need a casus belli to declare war. I'm gonna see how this runs without the system and decide if it should be implemented later.
15. Good luck and have fun!
