Author Topic: Just tried sushi for the first time  (Read 1261 times)

Miso soup is really tasty, and my sister usually buys the instant stuff from the asian store often.

The first time I tried sushi was when I made some myself. Was pretty good.

I tried sushi for the first time a few months ago too, and it actually was pretty good. I had a spicy salmon roll with avocado, and I may get it again. I only get it from Whole Foods though, otherwise I wouldn't trust it from anywhere else. I thought it was sort of icky to have the fish raw but it actually wasn't as bad as I'd thought.

also planr, good on you for going to Publix, arent their fried chicken tender things the loving AMAZINGEST HOLY stuff
Chicken fingers I think, and yes, they are really good. Especially with this Bulls-Eye Carolina Barbeque sauce I got last week for a dollar.

does anyone know how long sushi usually lasts in the refrigerator? I don't know if these big 12-packets are meant to be all eaten in one sitting or not and I just want to make sure the rest will still be good when I have some tomorrow. it's a really fishy-tasting food so its very difficult for me to be able to handle eating more than two in one sitting.

Their Honey Mustard kicks ass too. In fact, everything is good about Publix. Everything.

never had sushi

never plan to

I'd kind of expect fish to have a fishy taste, but that's just opinion.

On a more relevant note, I would probably not try sushi.  I want to try crab or lobster.

Publix has really nice employees. Very nice. And Florida (northeast especially, around Jacksonville) is typically a place where rude people proliferate.

Oh I beg to differ! The people around here are nice as can be!

Jacksonville is where people don't care. They have a total disregard for those around them.

Is there a chance you live in a parallel universe to me?

Sushi is one of those things that varies in quality a lot depending on where you live. If you can get it from a good place, that is able to get fresh seafood, parasites shouldn't be an issue.

I think the raw fish bit is somewhat of an acquired taste, I'm not too fond of it myself, but it is still something to try.

You can also get chicken teriyaki sushi, and cooked tuna sushi, those might be worth a try. Another, more traditional one would be the egg (tamagoyaki) sushi, that kinda looks like a very smooth omelet on rice.

Another good Japanese food item is okinomiyaki, which are essentially cabbage pancakes. Now, I'm not too fond of cabbage but these things are great.

california roll =/= sushi

you gotta get some REAL sushi

yeah whats the deal lol. you got a vegetarian roll? sushi implies some kinda seafood.
