I dump flares and pull on the stick hard while slamming the right rudder pedal hard, sending the nose of the Hornet pointing straight at the ground.

"AWACS, can any allied ground forces take out those SAM launchers?"

The answer from the communications officer and the AWACS both confirm a negative unless one of you can lase an artillery target. Give or take five minutes they'll figure out where the SAMs are coming from eventually.
The missile is distracted by the flares long enough to overshoot you and impact the ground nearby
You are now losing altitude rapidly.

I literally have no other choice because my engine exploded. It's either hope for the best or death.

You land in the middle of the Huitz forces and you are clonked upside the head with a rifle butt unconsci- nah I'm just kidding you land behind friendly lines.

"This is Mjolnir 1-4, I'm coming around to take care of the approaching armor."

I come up behind an armor column and let loose a flurry of rocket fire.

Several IFVs and armored cars are disabled. One of the armored cars, the pedal weighed down by its unconscious driver, rams straight into a transport truck and partially stops the armor column. A SAM is launched and you are being pursued.

The encroaching armor column is slowed but is not stopped. Luckily, they are still not within firing range and you still have time to whittle it down even more.

Targets to keep in mind:
-Approx. 20x Challengers
-12x Warrior IFVs
-46x Armored Cars
-39x Transport Trucks
-3x SAM trucks

Obrad locks onto a SAM and fires a AGM missile.
"Take down those SAMs first! This will be a lot easier when we don't have missiles constantly chasing us!"

The roosterpit rumbles profusely as I level out the Hornet at a fairly low altitude. I identify the other two SAM trucks and fire a pair of JSMs at the other two SAM trucks before banking away from them.

I instinctively spin my head around upon hearing the missile approach warning tone, searching for the smoke pillar generated by the rocket motor. There!

"Cowboy, defending inbound SAM, SSW at 4 miles!"

I turn to face the threat and begin counting in my head. As I reach the end of the countdown, I pitch down before pulling back up again into a tight loop, dropping chaff and flares to evade the missile.

So uh...

I've been in Florida for a week with worse than dialup Internet.

What happened while I was gone?

We did another mission while you were dead, Mr. Hurricane defected to the Huits. On our last mission everybody got shot down except for me and mlockha; afterwards, we got two new squadron members (Comatose quit).

Now we're in the middle of another mission and there's a stuff ton of new material on the first page.

Somebody update him while I update something else

"Anti-ground missile missile"
Genius.
In any case, the AGM hits its mark and knocks out the SAM truck easily.

One of the armored cars saw you coming and started to pepper your aircraft with heavy machine gun fire. Luckily for you it only offered a few cracks and dents, your canopy is mostly fine and the bullets either went wide or hit nothing important. For some reason one of the ground crew in a different section of the column had an anti-air missile launcher with them and decided to fire on one of you. Obrad now has a missile chasing him.

This happens and you successfully evade the missile.

Also there is an entire flight squadron of attractive gay girls
Just saying it's kind of the best squadron in the story

The missile cackles past and explodes harmlessly out of range.

"That's one! Mjolnir 1-4, resuming task!"

Free to attack the encroaching hostiles once more, I dive down on a convoy of wheeled vehicles and strafe it with my guns.

"[Too close..]"

I aim for the transport trucks and dive back in, releasing my remaining 14 rockets and an extended burst of gunfire at them before pulling out to medium altitude. "This is Mjolnir 1-2, I'm out of rockets." I manually drop the empty pods from the wings.

I go in for the squad leader (yet again) and fire a full missile salvo. Hopefully this time it isn't intercepted.
It drops flares and pulls up hard, while also decelerating quickly. The missiles dive for the bait and it looks like you're about to shoot right under him.

1-1: "Oh, NO you don't!"

A beam of light comes down from the heavens, skewering the enemy fighter from intake to afterburner and blowing it to smithereens. Your plane takes minor damage from being pelted with tiny bits of plane and pilot.

1-1: "Sorry about that! I knew you had him but we have to pick up the pace here!"

I get on the last of the bad pilots in the Viper's team. I unleash hell upon it just because I can. I spray it with my main cannon, and send one salvo and another IF the plane does not explode or go down.
The enemy jet is riddled with bulletholes and tries unsuccessfully to shake the missiles headed its way.

Oculus: "I'm not reading any more airborne targets in the combat zone, but there are more on the way. Change heading to three-three-eight and engage the inbound fighter squadron at navpoint alpha. Updating your tactical maps now. Percussor Maniple has entered the area and is beginning their attack, so be aware of their presence."

Unit presence updated

Allied forces in the area:
6x Panavia Tornado

Enemy forces approaching the area (as in you won't be able to attack them on your next post):
3x Chengdu J-20
15x Chengdu J-10

1-5: "Look at all of them, how are we supposed to handle that many?"

1-1: "Feh. The ones we just popped were definitely outliers. The majority of Kintharian pilots I have engaged have been so inept I suspect they couldn't read the instruments over their own endowment. Listen up every-one. Loki, Turtle: You're with me. We are going to take them head on and cause as much chaos as possible. Fly close behind me and I will be able to protect you with my own counter-measures for their initial barrage, then we split up and pick them off individually. I will prioritize the flight leaders, Kint lowlifes are so adorably helpless without guidance."

There's something slightly off-putting about her tone as she says that last part.

1-1: "Crux, Barnstorm: Stay farther back, pick off anything that gets past us and heads for the attack craft. Luthor, keep an eye on their movements and let us know if we're being maneuvered into a trap. You all got it?"

"Shouldn't have wasted rockets on transports. Those are easy to take down with cannon fire. Rockets should be reserved for armor."
Obrad locks onto an IFV, firing an AGM, then cannon fire at a transport.

The rockets are more of an area-of-effect weapon that you use to mow down large amounts of enemies without having to be too accurate with them, at least that's why I used them on the trucks- chances are, they'll be lightly armored enough to take a decent amount of damage from the shrapnel of adjacent exploding trucks or just from the explosions themselves. Besides- armor is more vulnerable when they don't have a sizable infantry presence to escort it and distract the defense line from shooting at the armored units.

tl;dr, the rockets are already weak as forget anyways, it doesn't help that I have a RAC/10 either; infantry is even more of a handful than armored vehicles because of the variety of anti-vehicle weapons they can carry while being much smaller targets.

"Yes ma'am," I say with pleasure.
I change heading to 338 and form up on the squad leader's wing, accelerating to keep up with her.
