"Whoa stuff, I got your back Basket!"
I follow behind him. I could go faster than him, but I don't.

I look back at my right wing to see a large cloud of smoke obscuring where it normally be. "I don't seem to be getting any response from the right wing or from the fire control on those missiles, do you have a visual?"

Warning alarms go off as I climb from that maneuver, I shut them off as the bullet-ridden Hornet flies back towards the defense line. "AWACS, I'm going in for another pass, track my location and altitude." I dive right back in at the enemy, passing over them in the same manner as before. My right air intake eats a few bullets, blowing out the right engine and forcing me to roll to the right to pull out at the end of the pass with the warning alarms beeping even more loudly than before.

"Mjolnir 1-2 here, I've taken heavy damage, I should be able to hold out a bit longer, but I need directions to the nearest friendly airstrip."

You are given directions to the nearest friendly airstrip.

Also is this a "Yes please go put more highly impractical artillery rounds into the air" or what

There are a lot of explosions. The enemy are kill. Allies are winner. Congratulate.

I catch sight of the friendly runway as my Hornet limps through the skies with a smoking right engine and air intake. "This is Mjolnir 1-2, requesting permission to land, I'll be coming in a bit hot." I slightly pitch the fighter up with a slight tug of the control stick and lower the landing gear.

wait so the mission is over
what

It's over when I'm done wasting my time watching Chaika and actually bother to write up a proper "the bads exploded you are winner congratulate" thing.
But yes that would conclude the mission.

Oh hey episode 9's over TIME TO WRITE A PROPER ENDING.

make things go boom boom

yes

"[Coordinates received, captain. Looks like Mjolnir wants us to fire again.]"
"[Works for me. ALL CANNONS-]"
The Mach-class artillery pieces all adjust to the proper firing positions, barrels unlocking.
"[FIRE!]"
The four large cannons begin to fire, barrels kicking back violently and dragging some smoke and steam with it. The empty casings are ejected into the ground behind, trailing with vapor from the shots. With a clang and a clatter they land, skittering across the floor much in the same way that casings from a smaller round would, albeit slower and much heavier.
Twenty more shells are hurled into the air, suddenly slamming into the retreating armor column. Blast after violent blast rains down on the targets, tearing into the remaining elements of the column, and turning the ground into the equivalent of Swiss cheese.
As the last shots are fired from the Mach-classes, their barrels lock back into their idle position, scathing hot to the touch. The massive chamber plates on each lock down, and small covers unlock, revealing a series of small holes placed at various intervals along the barrel. Steam violently ejects from these holes harmlessly, the water vapor rising away from the artillery position.
Nothing remains of the armor column. No further enemy advancement is detected.
Mission success.
