Author Topic: Do i have buals of steel or are horror games just stuff?  (Read 4229 times)

However i didn't consider it a horror game. It was boring so i quit playing after 20 or so minutes when the first 2 or 3 pixel messes appeared.
Yeah, it's not really "horror". It's more just unsettling and creepy. I've been creeped at some points of the game, but not scared

Lone Survivor was really really boring yet also too much of a pain in the ass to be enjoyable as a horror game or otherwise.

The only scary games are the games that are not even in the genre of horror.

generally the standard horror genre relies on jump scares at most out of everything else in which case can become rly repetitive after the 1st 20 or so times

if ur looking 4 a decent challenge, psychological horror might just fit ur expectations

it might seem that just about any game has the ability to give off that sense of disturbing image, which can really only be taken into mind the longer you spend pondering on the subject

like i knew for a fact that loz majoras mask wasnt horrifying at all and made for an enjoyable experience, but the entire idea behind some of the landmarks and the darker theme behind the game might freak some players out

especially since the ambiance and or sfx of some locations were otherwise haunting
it also doesnt help when other peeps come up w/ their own spooky stories about haunted cartridges and whatnot no matter how fake they are yo

the true scare factor might take place when the usual routine of the game is interrupted by something the player has never seen or heard of before, similar to finding a secret room or something along those lines

The only scary games are the games that are not even in the genre of horror.

This was super creepy in Runescape

Oh and this

The reason why things in non-horror games are scary is that you don't expect there to be anything scary in a non-horror game, therefore a game can easily surprise you and make you feel truly scared

People who believe that a loud sound (aka Slenderman) makes you scared are full of stuff. That's not fear, that's being nearly deafened by the moron who programmed the audio.

The only time I felt fear in games was when I was young, and I was legitimately terrified of failure. LEGO Racers was so scary to me since I could never finish the first race, I sold the game off (when I was like 4/5). A demo version of a Blinky Bill game ends when you attempt to track a vehicle into the sand and it keeps going to a screen where you lost it and then loops back to the beginning. I was piss scared of that and had nightmares due to it.

Scary games aren't about jump-scares and dark atmospheres, they're about making the player so psychologically terrified of failure that they're willing to quit the game forever based on if they succeed or lose the next challenge.

you have fail-o-phobia? whut.

The only time horror games work is when it has a good atmosphere. i personally found games like Dead Space (only 2) scary because of the environment, as well as F.E.A.R., because I was really into it. Then again, I'm a horror fanatic in general, so maybe it just depends on the person.

I played Lone Survivor for 8 minutes, got bored beyond belief and never played again.

I get bored really quickly when playing it because it's tedious. But it's still one of my favorite games.

That's the Metro theme btw.

you have a loose definition of "favorite"

Well as in, I've beaten it before and playing it a second time is just very tedious. But overall I like its atmosphere, graphics, and soundtrack, so it's enough to keep me playing for at least a little while and enough to get on my list of top fifty.

>FEAR
>scary

Played 1 and 2

confirmed for not scary. It's once again super predictable. Whenever a SPOOKY GHOST LOOK OUT scene is coming, your gui flashes and the lights dim.

At this point you should just realise "Scary games don't work on me" and move on with your life.
