We need a Dwarf Fortress with actual graphics.
Anything other than the ASCII graphics will ruin it for you imo.

Learning what each character represents is half the fun

The arrow/bolt - The medieval age's equivalent of a bullet.
But I put so many points into armor user, shield user, and dodger.

My current adventurer has superhuman agility, is a proficient dodger and managed to dodge every single bolt/arrow that has been fired at him.

I have superhuman agility and proficient dodger too, but I still get hit every once in a while.
Whenever I encounter anyone with a bow or crossbow I just run to the nearest tree and wait for them to come closer.

I didn't even see the crossbow person. It was literally the second bolt fired. The first one was harmlessly blocked.

I'm just disappointed that my spit doesn't seem to do any damage.

I'm tempted to go in the raws, find it, and give it insane capabilities to do things like decapitate people and suchlike.
That'd be fun.

Make spit the same as a platinum warhammer.

Or even better, make it corrosive.
"The flying spit hits the farmer in the leg!"
"The farmer is melting!"

I have had bad experiences with melting.

In my journeys I have had several Dragon-crushing adventurers. With one such adventurer, I decided to enter a cave and battle a dragon inside of it, a mistake I would never make again.

As it turns out there were two dragons. The first dragon was mercilessly slaughtered by my spears. The second entered the chamber and unleashed his breath attack. I laughed as the combat text filled with reports of successful blocks. The smoke began to fill up the room, obscuring everything in sight, yet the battle waged on, many spears and claws being deflected, it seemed a lethal blow wasn't happening. I would need to bleed this dragon dry for the kill. I wore the dragon down, but it was getting a little hot. I tried to find an exit, but the smoke was too heavy. "You are melting! You are melting! You are melting!"

I experienced my first fortress death to the hands of the earth.

I was mining out a small out-crop on the mountain ledge I embarked on, and the "floor" above (Mainly snow/dirt) caved in and killed 2 Two-Legged Rhino Lizards, 2 dwarves under it, my miner and my only lumberdwarf/craftdwarf, and the dust from it killed a hen.

I feel disappointed.

But someone isn't

Evidently that dwarf is a psychopath.
Assign him to your military, he'll probably come in handy for doing jobs that involve being around dead things.

This is one of my first fortresses, (I have 3 others, and the farthest one has stairs a couple Z levels down, and a few workshops.) and I don't even know how to do most of this awesome stuff like burrows, or even proper building.
