this is a bit late but
dashcon 2 wasn't exactly "fake", but it was supposed to be a project made by COMPLETELY different people. they said that dashcon was a disaster, and that they could do better
it even said on the original crowdfunding page that they weren't affiliated with Dashcon, so people took it seriously out of hand because they simply didn't care to read.
that being said, it was probably a joke, judging from the $17k goal, the absurd contribution amounts that pretty much only added extra time in the ballpit as they went up, and that very last contribution amount that would have paid the whole $17k, and would have supposedly allowed endless access to the convention with no boundaries or limits on what could be done.
so basically, whoever paid $17k could have raped multiple attendees, pissed in the ballpit, and stolen from vendors, and there's nothing that the staff could do about him because he paid that $17k (it's an exaggeration, but you get my point).
