Author Topic: I 'came out' as an atheist.  (Read 25166 times)

Whenever someone describes themselves as an agnostic, I read it to myself as atheist
well I am agnostic, and I mean agnostic when I say it
I do want to believe certain things. but I don't!

I call myself an apatheist. I don't participate in any religions, and whether there's a god or not is irrelevant to me. If there is a god out there, they don't seem to care about humanity, and they've made no apparent attempt to influence my life. So if I found out for certain that a god existed, it wouldn't change how I go about my life at all.

I used to be a so called, "militant atheist", but I grew out of that. I really just don't care anymore.

Unless you're a creationist, then you're just an idiot.

I personally don't care if youre Muslim, Hindu, Agnostic, Atheist or whatever
I'm a Christian but I was dating an agnostic for a little so idk
Oh well you're going to hell, no redemption donut pass go and collect $200.

I don't even know what I'd be classed as, I used to be a regular old atheist but now I don't have a religion because I don't agree with the way the ones available to me do their business. I still don't believe in the concept of god but I do believe that having something to believe in, something that can get you through the hardest of times just through the strength of your belief, is a wonderful thing that no man, woman or child should ever be deprived of regardless of whether or not what they believe in actually exists.

I would gladly follow a religion whose methods I agreed with without believing in the presence of the god itself.

whenever religion is involved there is always going to be an argument

this is going to go 75 pages
I'm calling it

you guys are going to bring it there

You basically just said I used to be an atheist but now Im an atheist.

Look into Buddhism, there's a large atheist Buddhist population.

Probably shouldn't have bothered telling her. Now you could get placed into a Catholic school or something.

Have you actually been to a Catholic School or have you just read about them in manga?

What does agnostic mean to you?
I said what I said, because of the link I posted in that post, and because the majority of the people I ask this question to reply with views that are in line with atheism. Most other views are deism, or some other unique belief system that I don't know what to call, but definitely wouldn't be classified as "agnosticism"

I've heard tales from other people in real life

the sheltered girls get the most freaky

Since the last few people have been discussing what they are, I'll join in too.

I now identify as an agnostic (formerly being an atheist, and prior to that being a CofE Christian), solely because there is no definitive evidence to prove or disprove the existence of a God/Ultimate Being.
There's no creationist "science" that influences my view, whereas I believe the theories of Evolution and the Big Bang to be correct and that they are definitely the way in which the universe came about and how life came to be diverse.
But ultimately there's no evidence to say what came before/started the Big Bang, and there's no evidence to say it wasn't God who created it, nor is there evidence to say God did.

Nothing else will really convince me that there is a God. No logical arguments, no claims of religious experience, design or miracles or claims of near death experiences, ghosts or spirits.
It'd have to be concrete empirical proof that there exists a God, or that there doesn't.

I can actually confirm this.
