Author Topic: OC megathread - why  (Read 346760 times)

my guess on the final verdict is it's not original but its still a character he can draw

both parties hold up valid points

The opposing side to flat is a bit aggressive in the way they're conducting themselves but I only assume that't because of the way flat responds to you guys when you criticize him.

The character like Legoboss said is made like a sonic OC sort of thing, the form is ripped right from something - yea you can make lore behind it to make it original but its still really some minor tweaks and colour changes - It's all a big hustle but I believe the opposing party is right

That doesn't stop flat from drawing it though.

also yea squartle please stop with the unnecessary posts

sorry to continue that drama you guys are in but I feel like this is the collected thought that'll initiate a falling action

I think the closest one of my chars get to OC is Super Novi, who's just a personification of one of my Blockland avatars.  Or at least I think she is.  I haven't really decided or really developed her as a 'sona.

Oh geez here comes the battle of the cliques again
Called it

-snip-
Well maybe Kata is just a personification of his SK character?  I am not sure if that's the case, although...

new oc:

I lied. it is only J. in armour here to yet again claim your gf.

TBH the reason why most of my characters are heavily based off other things is cause I'm legit terrible at coming up with new things from scratch, and I dont want to really change much on the characters because I already like them pretty much as is, and the fact that I have very few ideas as to what I should change.

and I mean sure you could say "start over with a completely new oc" but its hard to do that when you've put so much development and love into the other ones, just throwing them away feels wrong to me.

Like these are legit characters that I love and really want to see become popular, because I personally find them really neat.

you don't get good at something by not doing it. [I sucked at building when I first started blockland, I didn't sit somewhere else and just use saves from other people - I kept building and became really good at it, This applies to art and design processes too.]

you don't have to throw away an OC

this is ]antlers.
he has modes -
lock mode; in which he is resting
bruteforce mode; when editing encrypted code
glitch mode; when he is being defeated, destroyed, or weakened
his antlers do not always have the markings, as they can be turned off when he is in lock mode
he is a codevirus, which hacks into code of any type and edits it. like all viruses of his type, if he gets into the real world, he can edit the 'code', or the fabric of the universe, which makes him very dangerous.

the text on his back says
]antlers

the problem though, like I stated, is I already like the characters the way they are, I dont really feel the need to change them other than to appease some standard of originality.

then keep them and on the side make one completely from scratch?

I've made a few builds I just saved and moved on to something fresh and new - It'd still there if you ever want to go back after you've tried something else.

take the features that you like the most from the spiral knights character and create a new character from that

it's not a bad thing to base your characters on a game character, but you gotta change it up a bit or it's like plagiarism

I can relate completely.  Although sometimes I change my characters every now and then if I haven't defined them well enough.  Which is 80-90% of all my personas.

Basically...personify what you like and then change what you need.

(or you can continue what youre doing because the only people that are bitching about it is BLf. what a surprise)
