You can totally get something for 300, but I agree: if you can go without a new PC until Crimbo or whenever next you might get money, you're gonna be able to get a better machine.

anyway, can you grab CPU-Z and tell us what kinda RAM ya'll got.

ive heard mobo doesnt really matter if it has at least one pci x16. thing is tho my board can only support 4 gigs o ram.
You need a new one if you want a better CPU (which you need to go with a better GPU or you'll just bottleneck it like stuff) because newer CPUs use a different socket

hillkill in your situation it looks like you're going to need to save up at least another 150 before you can get anything decent from your computer

don't make the mistake of spending 300 on 2 or 3 good parts and then leaving the rest of your system to bottleneck the stuff out of those parts... you're better off just waiting than having to deal with that bullstuff

so I think I found something that might work. This build comes in right around $300, and gives you a new CPU, mobo, GPU, and PSU. Your RAM should work fine with it and I hope that it'll fit in your current case. Feel free to call me a stuffbrain moron if this build is bad or whatever.

dont listen to anyone here saying upgrade your gpu

start from the bottom up and for now get a solid mobo & psu

then from then on whenever you get some money saved you can expand your PC without having to worry about backbone items.
