The logic behind most of these operations that people consider to be "America policing the world" is to stamp out these issues in the middle east and beyond before they escalate and become an even bigger threat to the United States. If you ask me, it's a wise policy, but it's been executed rather poorly and we have gained so little ground and yet at such a great cost.
