Author Topic: Google made a change to YouTube [it's not BAD or anything]  (Read 1782 times)

idk if there is a way but i can't even loving reach my channel anymore, i dont think its possible
???

At the top left of Youtube there's a little menu button and it's the second option after you click on it..

Because things need to have a fresh look to avoid going out of date? If they didn't constantly update how it looked, it'd look like this still:

It's so beautiful.
5 star rating system
Video responses are a thing (or if they're still a thing, they're obvious)
Stuff like the description and stats are visible without having to close something else to view it.
That comment system.
No overused minimalist style.
Honest video recommendations, not filled with the most popular youtubers and people to pay to have their stuff there are clearly marked.

Also, DrenDran, the internet is a fast-paced organism that's changing by the day. It requires a lot of work to keep at the edge of that and not fall behind. Sites that fail to adapt end up like MySpace.
Yeah, that extra grey rectangle sure kept me from switching to dailymotion.
Obviously stuff goes out of date but small graphical changes aren't going to have much of an impact.

I mean the Blockland Forum hasn't changed its style in over half a decade, and we're all still here!
Blockland: 1
Atheists: 0

I don't like to be one of the people that whines about every change and nothing really got worse this time, it's just that I'm kinda getting tired of Web 3.0

You're literally just being difficult. The Blockland Forums isn't the same thing as Youtube. It's a bulletin board style forum used by <1,000 people per day. Youtube is a social media platform, a video broadcasting platform, a video sharing platform, a discussion thread platform, a private messaging platform, an update feed platform, a marketing platform, and so much more and is used by MILLIONS of people per day. Comparing the two is like saying that construction machinery is stupid because you can do small home fixes with your bare hands.

I never claimed the old youtube was unusable or even less featured. I said that it would look like that. Human beings are extremely visual creatures that have a huge focus on aesthetics -- that website just won't cut it in this day and age. People would literally be driven away by the archaic styling. It's the same reason that cars look different every generation -- there's nothing wrong with how a '67 mustang looks and some people even like that better, but it looks a lot different than a 2015 mustang. Things update. Things evolve. If you can't adapt, you'll get left behind and that's your fault, not the fault of the technology that's surpassing you.

we need to talk about youtube ios

the subscriptions tab is next to useless now because it only shows one random video for every channel

and the what to watch page is also pretty messed up because the first things you see are a huge ad and "a popular channel that you might 'like'", and more unnecessary videos as you scroll down

did i mention that what to watch is the first thing you see when you open youtube

also, the ads

the horrendous, horrendous ads

those are the reason i have adblock

sure, it's okay the first time around, but wait until you can recognize chili's by an annoying song

plus some ads don't have a skip button

and now practically anyone can make a random video an ad

the time when the advertising system was arguably at its worst was the bud light super bowl ad back in 2013, it was unskippable and was 1 minute long

The Android app used to have no way of sorting through what your subscribed users uploaded and what they liked/favorited.. it was awful. The client is much better now, though.

There's no problem with comparing the visual styles of two websites just because one has orders of magnitude more users.
It's the functionality that would be uncomparable, but 1,000 people are still as human as 1,000,000,000 people.

People tend to treasure classic cars, at least the better quality ones.
And there's a lot of people who treasure the older youtube designs.
That metaphor just doesn't work. Sure there'd be a decent amount of soccer moms with safety concerns, but the majority of people would trade in a used kia civic for a brand new '67 mustang.

Lastly, google can do whatever they want and not worry about losing users.
They could make youtube like in 2009, or they could force total integration with google plus. Either way would get a lot of hate, but people would keep using the site.
