Author Topic: So, what've I missed?  (Read 158067 times)

I remember Iban when he had a working, non deleted blog that had ZAPT builds for download. The blog also had a way to get into his cityRPG V3 closed beta or something, and it had a teal color on the server browser. This was way back before maps were killed off.

Seems to me that most people are upset about blockland's lack of updates because a few small updates could go a really long way in terms of improving the overall game. I certainly don't disagree, but it doesn't warrant demanding/expecting badspot to do it. I got my money's worth 100 times over. And the same as anyone who tries to work on big projects for anything, it's very difficult to keep yourself motivated. Considering that most of the responses he gets about the development of the game are negative, I don't blame him in the slightest

I really agree that unique mods that are never released to the public do nothing but harm the game
Point being that gamemodes was not even close to being the remedy for that. Needs settings support and it's gold. Right now it's stuff because in order to customize any sort of gamemode, even if it were to just be tweaking a time limit or something equally miniscule, you need to edit the scripts and repackage. Even if the gamemode creator added in serverCmds, that's just more hidden config to add to the already loaded up with hidden config game.

Though we should all stop really. Badspot is not going to do anything. Going to have to agree with trinick on the documentation part because we do have the tools we need to get a lot of information. But bugs and the gamemode system are problems and need to be fixed. Additional functionality would just be a bonus and for the most part are just suggestions in attempt to inspire.

Statistics are a real thing and a lot of new players didn't remain long at all. Most likely because of the underwhelming steam support. Right now I understand the average number of players is double what it was before the summer sale, but it's definitely been cut down to 1/3 if you're looking at the number of players during the sale. The community shouldn't have to figure out workarounds to host dedicated servers, nor turn down the game volume to like 10% if they're first-person headphone users.

The people who complain about stalled development probably really like the game and recognize its' potential.  But the value we've gotten from blockland is still above and beyond.  I for one would pay for more updates lol.  And Mr. Wallet, i'm not reading that novel you just posted.  It's blockland dude, settle down.

I absolutely love how some old members of the forums who rarely post came here just to give their 2 cents.

I actually do. It makes me feel like it's the old days to see old familiar names.

I agree with releasing mods to the public, but only after their relevance to your server is gone.

Hi Iban!

Oh, bye Iban! That was too quick.
I got my hopes up you would cause a little more tomfoolery around here. EmoFreak isn't enough.

Since we're still on the subject of Blockland updates, I suggest a ranking system of some sort to help ease the "idea stealing" paranoia that is so prevalent. A good developer would look to have a healthy game and a healthy community. If one of those becomes too unstable, it holds the entire project back.

Badspot, outside of this game, has much more to deal with and can't devote absolutely all of his time to Blockland. Plus, if he has children screaming in his ears all the time, that's not encouraging at all and from what it sounds like, it's starting to discourage him from doing anything.

Also this. Instead of bitching and whining at Badspot, why not appeal to him? Make him excited to update this game rather than resent members for their constant bickering. But, I'm sure that would take quite a lot of appealing. There is years worth of stuff and petty complaints to get over before that would happen. Also, I'm sure that will never happen.

Anyway,
20 bucks well spent.

i dont even play the game anymore

tl;dr but hi wallet
hi truce ilu  :iceCream:

For the tl;dr crowd, Crispy's summary of my post is flat-out wrong which is why it doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense.

@Trace
It's not like I ever asked nor expected Badspot to go out of his way and spend a huge amount of his time to set up a giant reference site with detailed descriptions of everything, but hypothetically if he did, you would know the loving difference. Defending the use of trace(), dump(), echo(), and searching this forum as a proper substitute for documentation, rather than a "whatever, good enough, I can live with it" kind of compromise, only proves to me that (in a programming context) you don't actually know first-hand what "documentation" is.
