Author Topic: forget off USPS.  (Read 3700 times)

Whenever I get packages from America, it's usually extremely costly, but it's always quick and I get proper tracking the entire way. UPS, FedEx, DHL and even USPS in the past all delivered my packages to Australian customs in under 4 days, which for mail is a loving feat and a half.

So, recently, I bought a set of LEGO Rock Raiders. Pretty big deal for me since I'm a part of a community of people who like the old classic games/sets, and these were in perfect condition. Originally the seller wasn't going to allow international shipments, but we managed to agree and after paying $67 shipping (Not that much off a ticket to America, mind you), I won the auction.

It's been 9 days and the packaged has apparently only just made it to the USPS ISC (International Service Centre), and based on what I've heard it could sit there for upto 14 days before it gets on a plane. Now, for patient people, that's probably not an issue at all, but I'm loving annoyed by this. When you pay nearly triple of what I had to pay other couriers to get service that takes triple the time as well, it's absolutely absurd. I dunno what richardheads run USPS, but it's pretty clear I could have just bought a plane ticket, picked up my LEGO, flown back all under 48 hours, and none of this wishy-washing processing through any facilities (which apparently it's been to three of so far).

tl;dr: Don't live in Australia if you want your mail quickly

$67 are you crazy?
it'd be $25 at the most..

I loving hate USPS. And I live in America.

Chances are, if USPS is delivering a parcel to you, they will treat it with the utmost of care like absolute stuff. I remember one year my grandmother sent me a gift for my birthday or Christmas or something and sent it through USPS like she had done a million times before.

Apparently, somewhere between here (Florida) and New York, the package was mistreated and whatever was inside broke. None of us could do anything about it, since we didn't know what stage in transit it had broken. All we know is that my grandmother had packed it well and securely and when it showed up the box had been battered.

forget USPS. I'll take privatized mail service any day.

yeah USPS sucks ass in the US too. main advantage is that they're generally faster when they deliver smaller packages along with your standard mail.

I feel bad for those guys in Australia and New Zealand who have to put up with dumb regulations and terrible internet.

probably why it's more expensive

probably why it's more expensive

are you kidding? a bunch of places I buy from have USPS as the cheapest option.

I didn't even know the usps shipped internationally

USPS wont let me move my mailbox. It's current position fills up with water when it rains or when the sprinklers go on.

you could probably replace it with a better one
I don't have to worry about that kinda stuff bc my mailbox is indoors

Mailboxes cost money and arent for sale anywhere nearby. I dont have a car

It figures why the service is bankrupt
