Official Mic Support Y/N?

Yes
No (Please Explain)

Author Topic: Official Voice Chat Support  (Read 4115 times)

Its 2014, majority of Steam Games have this functionalitynearly all online multiplayer games have this function.

This is not a X is a replacement for X your asking thread (That means I'm not asking for an alternative like Team Speak), this is about official Torque Voice Chat Support, why?

Its more useful than typing everything it (most of the time)
Imagine playing a game and instead of stopping to type you just push your mic key and talk to your fellow players, or if your in a intense TDM instead of having to stop and type and risk being killed, you just keep going hit your mic key and talk to your team mates.

It has endless possibilities, Freebuilds, TDMs, RP's, you name it.

Now here are some reasons people have said they don't want mic support:

"Nobody wants to hear kids screaming" - Hey listen, there is a magical button called the Mute button, it makes your problem go away. t would be in the player list menu, or if you don't want to hear anything from a mic, you can disable mic in the options.

"Dependency on Mic will end up killing the chat" - Nobody is forcing you to use a mic, people will still read what you type.

"Mic Spammers" - Mute, other than that its kind of equal to chat spamming, if an admin didn't take care about it its their problem.

To sum it up its 2014 and we need official mic support, not an alternative like teamspeak.
Something that will let you speak to the whole server, in any server.

I'd personally love it, but Badspot's not gonna do it. Someone else would have to.

I could swear someone made a "Teamspeak" add-on somewhere on the forums.

ZSNO did, but it's only a client that shows you in-game who is speaking at the time. You still need teamspeak running in the background.

The Above.

You guys do know Torque has built in Voice Chat Support right? Badspot just has to enable it, because its some sort of very slight engine switch, much like direct 3d support.

What is wrong with Teamspeak?

It doesn't come with Blockland, therefor unless they read about it they won't use it because odds are they don't even know of its existense.

It would be more convenient if it was in-game, and everyone would hear what is being said whether they have a mic or not.

In the case my comment was not clear enough, Racerboy explains exactly why It would be more convenient to have in the game.

I feel it is something that is absolutely required in a game where you play with lots of people.

If it does get added, it better have some modding ability so we dont have some kid rampaging people's ears.

I believe that this has not only been asked for multiple times before, but also is not possible to implement into the game as a result of engine limitations, if I recall correctly.

badspot's not going to do it :/

just use skype or teamspeak
that's what I've done the past 3 years

Yes!

I've thought a bit about it - there could be certain modes of voice chat integrated, like Global, Local (you can hear someone from a certain amount of studs away - this amount could be changeable) and Team, which broadcasts it to your team in the minigame.

Blockland uses Steam now. Steam has voice chat support. Use Steam voice chat?
