Author Topic: Does anyone actually type using the home keys format?  (Read 2618 times)

Taking a computer apps class right now. All I can say is, I loving DESPISE the home row method. I always just end up typing gibberish. I use my own method of typing, mostly using only about 2-3 fingers on each hand, and I'm currently the fastest and most accurate typer in the school.
Back it up with your WPM?

No, sometimes while I'm in the middle of typing something and pause I do it out of instinct, but other than that no. I just press the key with whatever finger happens to be closest without looking.

And I'm decently fast. Idk last time I checked my wpm but it was ok in 9th computer class (when I HAD to use the hr method), so I imagine I'm better.

Around 70-80. I'm not in a very tech literate school, but this is a decent WPM nonetheless

Mavis Beacon can suck my richard, because I learned how to type by playing a lot of World of Warcraft.

My default position is on WASD with the pinky on shift and the thumb on spacebar and V (I use V to crouch in a bunch of games because my ctrl key was broken when I started playing 1.6, it sorta stuck with me) and my right hand just goes wherever the hell it wants.
"Right hand, go to the kitchen and make me a sandw- hey! Right hand! Get back here!"

Take one of the tests and I'll believe you then. Not saying it isn't possible but you claim to be using less fingers, and fastest, most accurate at your school.

Nah, I type however I please

Fun fact: The QWERTY keyboard format was intentionally designed to be slow. This was because the typewriter machine that it was designed for would jam up if you typed just so fast, so they created the QWERTY layout, which was designed to slow down the typer and avoid jams. Somehow the layout has stuck and we're now using one of the slowest typing formats possible for no damn reason.
It's not to slow you down, but to keep common keys as far from each other as possible...

...which is to slow you down.

I have memorized the locations of all the keys on my keyboard.

What the forget am I doing with my life.
