Author Topic: Murder Miners  (Read 2030 times)

I just started playing this game called Murder Miners. It was inspired largely by Halo, which is apparent. I was skeptical at first, just thought it looked like halo/minecraft/quake handicap child, but the gameplay is actually extremely swift. It has that certain early 2000's style to it, which I think is really appealing if it's done right. You can make your own maps or just fight on one of the many many built in ones. It's on sale for less than a dollar right now, and I would be extremely happy to see some more players on consistently. The videos don't do the snappy controls and overall charm of this game justice, so please try it out.

OK, played some more after comments from dev.

The game reminds me of Cube 2 Sauerbraten (FPS + ability to co-op edit maps) but not as pretty and with slower pace. However it has vehicles, ability to destroy maps, and zombies for some modes.

The main differentiator is the Infestation mode where you turn into a zombie once dead. Zombies cannot pick-up guns but come with their own weapons (claws and tongue). Overall, this is a fun mode.

Main problem for me with the game is that the maps, while fun, are not well balanced. A lot of them are very open, which means that a sniper or someone flying high above with a vehicule can spam the map. You often see zombies coming from far away. There is an option to remove some weapon (e.g. sniper) so could potentially help, but it feels like a cheap trick.

The +
--- Co-op editing
--- Map variety - lots of them
--- Zombie are fun to play once you understand weapons/leveleving up mechanics

The -
--- Single player and co-op labels are misleading. The AI is too poor to really be single-player (zombie running toward you)
--- Most map design are not well balanced
--- Gameplay is straigt forward which is a + but so simple it doesn't require much skills like quake/unreal for instance.

I'd rate it 4 out of 10. There are better arena FPS alternatives on PC.

I remember playing this back on the xbox. It was really good.
As much as it is now, its a must buy.

The only big complaint he has is the maps in a game where you can make your own maps?

Also the gameplay absolutely does reward skill and finesse. It's not very strategic. It's straight forward, as stated, but the combat is fair and the one with the better aim and moves will generally win.

This^

I'm also wondering what features they may have added while I haven't been playing it

I'd be willing to get a couple extra copies to give out on here if anyone's interested and can't purchase for whatever reason.
