I think you're an idiot. The entire point of humor is to make bleak situations seem happy. Without it, we'd all be depressed and crying about everything. Joking about disabilities and sicknesses should not be bannable.

I've always seen it as a way to clarify that your comment is sarcasm to someone who's bothered by it and quotes it. I don't use it primarily because I don't care if people can tell if I'm being sarcastic or not, that's their problem not mine.
