Author Topic: Future of the Gaming Community and Its Position in Society  (Read 1760 times)

Derontchi and Camel, I want to reply to your posts soon when I have enough time to properly think about it, but I only have time to quickly respond to this.

Yeah, so are movies and show. we call people who like those fans, not a community.
You cannot interact with the movie, and the movie does not teach you anything tangible. It doesn't develop you in any way. It's a disjointed experience. That's why movies are seen as "just a hobby".

Games actually connect with you, since you have to interact and you have to be good enough to progress in the game, which requires practice (just like studying for exams).

I'm angry because I can't enjoy games anymore. Whenever I play one I feel like an idiot.

I actually think I understand where Squideey is coming from. The gaming community has become so mainstream that he feels like such a conformist that he can't even see video games as something special anymore.

it's clear from his sig he hates all video games period.

I actually think that he would be a good part in this discussion, since his sig is extremely relevant to the topic at-hand

cuz ur 2 cool for games and 2 cool for us

Like to make it clear: i don't hate the idea of a gaming community, but really wished we wouldn't need to make it sound exclusive, gaming should be as commonplace as other mediums in the future. IMHO.

and like other mediums, it has to be divided into several sections

playing a mobile game does not make you a gamer in the same way that making scrambled eggs does not make you a chef

It's becoming anything but exclusive and that's why I made this thread, because it's becoming so large and mainstream that the future is unclear and has many possible outcomes.
