They're not charging money for it. They are calling it a demo because it's not finished. The finished version will (if it ever sees the light of day) be free.

Technically this came first.

I tried this game myself, I hooked up my GC controller to my computer and mapped it to keys. It's not that bad of a game, but the dash recognition I rigged up felt super stuffty. Also, unsurprisingly, the anime inserts are the most OP characters. Surprise surprise.
edit: in tournament they play with keyboards wtf
