Author Topic: What is your stance on abortion? (Abortion discussion)  (Read 42284 times)

Even as a person of religion, I agree that it has no place in these debates, but there are plenty of other arguments that don't include religion for abortion being illegal.
Why are you so adamant about illegalizing any and all abortions? You do know that is a general word for a list of medical practices and medications, right? You do know a miscarriage is also considered an abortion, right?

I want you to tell me exactly what you think should be illegal. No generalized "abortions are bad" talk, give us examples.

I feel like religion has a very important place in these debates. The function that these debates serve is to try and change the position that your "opponents" have on the issue. If somebody is religious and use their religion as a justification for their belief system, ignoring/dismissing/insulting that is one of the stupidest things you could do. You need to explain things to people in terms they understand; make your argument justified in their eyes.

I don't need to change anyone's mind to be happy, I just like debating. :)

Plus too, if I could make a religious person understand why a woman has more right to her life than a fetus has to its life, then I'd be a god damn prophet by now.

My opinion is no abortion unless it's the result of rape, loveual abuse/assault, or will cause serious harm to the mother.

It's just my opinion and I'm not going to try to justify it to anyone :P
This. And early in pregnancy I would say its okay, because I don't really consider it a human/baby. Its just a blob of cells lol

Debating is arguing; an argument is a reason or set of reasons given with the aim of persuading others that an action or idea is right or wrong. What you like doing is ranting, which is completely fine; it's just not debating.

Why does it have to be religous person that opposes abortion? There are many athiest pro-lifers! I made my stance on abortion completely independent from my religious views and beliefs.

Oh but isn't a sprout a plant?

(It is.)

I really can't believe you guys are still using this argument.

they have their own unique dna and form their own organs

We're not saying a fetus isn't a human, we're saying its not a person yet. Until you're outside the womb and the umbilical cord is cut, you're still a fetus, and therefore you have less rights to life than an infant.
