I stop playing this game for a year, and people are STILL complaining about this?!

People need to understand that terrains were not removed because of the addition of shadows. Badspot said himself that "maps" were simply an optional feature that came with Torque and were honestly pretty crappy. They had terrible collision with vehicles, they had the worst look/textures/quality to EVER, and pretty much every time something was added to the game, they always got in the way and Badspot had to work really hard to get around them. Plus, there was that TERRIBLY ANNOYING bug where the slopes looked pink...PINK!

In a nut shell, terrains simply looked/acted badly and caused tons of problems with debugging. We could actually have both terrains and shadows, but that's not why they were removed. They were simply a piece of crap.

Terrains are gone.
They are not coming back.

There is no point in this.

People need to get this through their tiny little heads.


Maps were removed to make updating the game easier.

I don't think you, or a quarter of this thread, realizes i'm just gathering opinions. I know they're not coming back, i know it was for a good reason to remove them, but if you actually took time to read the title other than just reading the word "terrains" and assuming it was another stuff thread, maybe you'd realize i was just trying to see if people wanted shaders or terrains more.

title is in present tense, as is the op

this implies an active desire for reversion

i miss all the good memories that came with maps like alchotoff and stuff but I reaaaaallly like shaders

exactly, if we had vehicle and player shaders which worked good with maps but how come brick shadows wouldnt work? (im saying this because of how people claim the shaders wouldnt work with terrain)

It's not gonna work because then Badspot and Rotondo have to do stuff and crap to make shaders affect with the maps. It will cause 99% of all users to have game crashes. So no.

Maybe somebody could create a refined, high-quality redefinition of the maps.  :cookieMonster:

you can't replace maps
not with static shapes, not with bricks, not with anything

the great thing is that we don't need maps. we need better ways to utilise bricks effectively and that's all.
