I'm not sure about Borderlands since I don't own it, but from what I read on Borderlands 2 reviews, some things were better, some worse, like random weapon stats and stuff was better in the first than second, but I enjoyed the second one tremendously. Was great fun with a friend, played for about 130 hours or so. Considering it's 75% off, I'd say jump it.
